Rochester, New York, lies on the shores of Lake Ontario and is a prosperous place with mansions set on wide boulevards. The place is named for an early settler, called Nathaniel Rochester, who set out the community in the early 19th century, Rochester is on the Genesee River, which flows over a series of waterfalls as it passes through the city. One of the city's most famous sons is the photography pioneer George Eastman, the founder of Kodak, and one of the famous companies born here was Xerox.
