Things to see

The domed Thompson Arena hosts ice hockey games for Dartmouth College’s men’s and women’s ice hockey teams. On game night, the stands are full of cheering fans from the college as well as locals who want to support the team. You’ll also see college teams at the Leede Arena, including the Big Green basketball team, as well as the occasional boxing or fencing match. Dartmouth College is worth a visit to see the range of historic buildings spread around the leafy campus, and this prestigious Ivy League college has a pleasant mixture of traditional and modern architecture. One of the newer buildings houses the Hood Museum of Art, an impressive gallery with plenty of well-lit space to display stylish contemporary art, works from around the world, and pieces created by the talented students of Dartmouth. There are also visiting exhibitions throughout the year, including work from internationally renowned artists.

How to get to Hanover

Lebanon Municipal Airport is 6 miles south of Hanover, with local services and facilities for small and private jets. The airport has car rental desks and a taxi service, so you can get into Hanover in just over 10 minutes. Manchester–Boston Regional Airport is about 80 minutes away by car, and has flights arriving from many of the major hubs in the USA. From here you can pick up a rental car, or get the Greyhound service which goes directly from the airport to Hanover, with the journey taking under 90 minutes. Nearby White River Junction also has an Amtrak station on the Vermonter line, with trains running between Washington DC and St. Albans.
