Mauritius Island Hotels

They say good things come in small packages, and in the case of Mauritius, it’s definitely true. A tiny, far-flung island in the Indian Ocean, Mauritius packs in a wealth of tropical beaches, lush forest and volcanic mountains. Once the home of the Dodo, the island has extraordinary biodiversity – a delight for any amateur naturalist. If you’re more of a city lover, fear not: the capital Port Louis is a vibrant, busy town, full of colourful markets and regular festivities.

Things to see

At first, the capital city, Port Louis, seems like a sleek, refined place, with acres of shiny high-rise buildings. But head to the central Port Louis Market, and the true Mauritanian culture comes to life. It’s a dazzling array of colourful handicrafts, locally-grown fruits and vegetables and freshly-caught seafood. Come prepared to haggle with the silver-tongued hawkers and you’ll bag yourself a bargain. The perimeter of Mauritius is a ribbon of beaches, so you’ll have a hard time choosing one. Grand Bay Beach is the centre of Mauritius tourism, so you’ll find a great selection of amenities here, including beach bars, shops and watersports. The Blue Water Diving Centre is located here, and there’s coral reef to explore just offshore. Cast adrift just off the east coast of Mauritius, the Ile Aux Cerfs Beach is a jaw-dropping beauty; a seductive curve of pure white sand, emerald forest and turquoise sea.
