Davos Hotels

A sprawling ski metropolis, Davos is many things – sweet not being one of them. This long-standing Swiss favourite isn't about wooden Alpine chalets and Christmassy cuteness. Instead, it's a no nonsense destination dedicated to all kinds of winter sports, the place to be if you're after some serious fun on the slopes with every need catered for. With dozens of on-piste restaurants and epic cross-country trails if you fancy exploring farther afield, it's a world within itself.

Things to see

Davos has 2 main hotspots – Davos-Dorf and Davos-Platz, and getting between the two is pretty easy thanks to the reliable public transport. While the main town can be a little unremarkable to look at, there's attractions to be found such as numerous places to eat and exhibitions like the Winter Sports Museum. The real delights lie in the ski areas, of course, with almost 320 kilometres of perfectly sculpted slopes ready for you to whoosh down. There are also winding sled runs, meandering cross-country tracks, and – if you fancy switching from skis to skates – one of the largest natural ice rinks in the world. Visit in the summer months and the cable cars will whisk you to the start point of some breathtaking hiking and mountain biking trails, while Lake Davos is another must-visit summer attraction with its swimming area and surfing centre. More intrepid visitors can also see the gorgeous landscape from the vantage point of a hangglider.

Hotels in Davos

It almost goes without saying there are many, many hotels in Davos. The variety is good news for visitors on tighter budgets, because even the accommodation on the lower end of the price scale tend to feature on-site perks including swimming pools, spa tubs and soothing steam rooms which are ideal for relaxing in after a strenuous day's skiing. You can also keep up with the all-important social networking thanks to the free WiFi many hotels offer in both the guestrooms and public areas. And if you want to indulge in a bit of apres-ski while knowing your bed is within collapsing distance, get the drinks in at the hotel bars.

Where to stay

Whichever Davos hotel you decide to stay in, you'll be close enough to the slopes and hiking trails to make the most of your holiday. There is accommodation to be found in both Davos-Dorf and Davos-Platz, as well as scattered in between the two main hubs. For even more choice you can cast your net wider, up to Lake Davos.

How to get to Davos

Davos is such a popular resort, it's no surprise getting there has been made easy. There are very frequent train services to Davos from central Zurich, and during busy seasons you can also get a bus directly from Zurich airport to Davos, which is even more convenient. Davos itself is, despite all the activity and facilities, on the small side, so you can explore easily on foot or hop on a local cab to get somewhere in a jiffy.
