The relatively small ski area still manages to fit in some scenic downhill trails, as well as plenty of space for cross country exploration. In the evenings there are many spectacular spots to watch the sun go down, with traditional bars and restaurants at the foot of the mountain.

Things to see

Neuschwanstein Castle is the main focal point of the village, with its romanesque revival architecture making it look like something from a fairytale. It was even the inspiration for Sleeping Beauty's castle in Disneyland, and when covered in snow it's a particularly impressive sight. The snowy conditions also bring a thick layer of powder to the mountains, and the village has a small and friendly ski area that's ideal for beginners, improvers, and family groups who want an unpretentious resort. There are a small number of ski lifts and trails, but they are all well-maintained and uncrowded, with skiers and snowboarders enjoying the season. During the warmer months there's still plenty to do, with the luge track open year round, and the steaming thermal pools with relaxing water piped in from the surrounding mountains. You can also enjoy classic baroque architecture, such as that of the St. Koloman church with its impressive murals and intricate carvings.
