Billund Hotels

They say that Billund is the town built from Lego, and that's almost literally true. This small town in Denmark is synonymous with the iconic toy, being the home of Lego's head office and the factory where almost every single Lego brick is made. It's one of the reasons the town is such a hit with families the world over, and even if you don't geek out over the wonderful world of Lego, you're bound to enjoy the wildlife of one of Denmark's best zoos.

Things to see

You just can't come to these parts and not pay a long visit to Legoland Billund. This is the original Legoland, opened back in 1968 and still one of Europe's hottest attractions today. Rollercoasters and water rides will leave you breathless, and you can calm down a bit by wandering Miniland, a world in miniature crafted from over 20 million Lego bricks. Another must-visit in Billund is the Lalandia Aquadome – this state-of-the-art water park offers a tropical climate whatever the weather, and you can go whooshing down the water slides, ride the waves in the mammoth pool or even go bowling. On a nice sunny day you should also check out Sculpturepark Billund, where modern artworks forged in steel and bronze are dotted across emerald fields. A short drive from Billund is Givskud Zoo, where safari buses will get you close to lions and zebras on the "African" plains.

Hotels in Billund

There are some rather interesting hotels in Billund to choose from. If you want the complete Lego experience, you can opt for the Legoland Holiday Village, with its rustic-style wooden cabins which are more modern than they look – complete with free WiFi. The Lalandia complex also offers sleek accommodation, putting you close to the watery action, or you might prefer to go for one of the other hotels dotted about Billund, some of which boast indoor swimming pools and luxurious spa facilities for perfect pampering.

Where to stay

The town isn't huge, so you can expect to find hotels in Billund around the town centre. This is great news for families who want to get on with their holiday with the minimum of fuss, and there's no risk of kids moaning from the back seats as everything is in such close proximity. Whether you want to visit Legoland and Lalandia, or simply explore the town itself, you can get places in a jiffy. With the airport close by as well, city breaks don't come much more convenient than this.

How to get to Billund

Chances are you'll be flying into the region, which means Billund Airport will be your gateway. It receives a range of flights from across Europe, and is a stone's throw from the hotels and tourist attractions of the area. It's also worth bearing in mind that during the peak summer period Billund has a dedicated shuttle bus that can take visitors to and from the airport and the big attractions, at no cost. Saying that, you may prefer to hire your own car while here, especially if you'd like to further afield and see neighbouring towns like Vejle.
