Hotels in Puerto de la Cruz, Spain - your base to discover the city.
Puerto de La Cruz HotelsFeel a flutter of excitement as you fly in over the charcoal-black sands of this Canary Island paradise, which is bursting with sun, sea and adventure. Settled away from the party resorts of the south, Puerto de la Cruz is a popular summer escape for canny Spanish visitors, and offers a slice of Tenerife at its most refined. Take on the mighty Mount Teide's climbing challenge, or slow the pace by hiking along rugged shoreline, watching as waves fizz against jagged black rocks. The cobbled, palm tree-dotted streets of Puerto de la Cruz’s Old Town are always welcoming, and you'll quickly adapt to the local ritual of sharing a sociable mid-afternoon coffee at a charming outdoor cafe.Things to seeWatch as streamlined sharks glide stealthily over your head, furrow-browed silverback gorillas rear up to show you who’s in charge, and penguins hop playfully over rocks at the wild Loro Parque. The park takes its name from the magnificent parrots that squark loudly as they zip overhead, flashing poppy-red streaks through the air. Brighten your day with even more colour, by visiting the city’s Botanical Gardens. Designed under orders from King Carlos III back in 1788, you’ll amble through narrow walkways formed by exotic plants and gangly trees, before sitting by the still lake to listen to the hum of buzzing bees. Take the cable car up to Spain’s highest point on the top of Mount Teide, or get close to a watery eruption at the huge Lago Martianez pool, where giant fountains pump cool water high into the air. Simply unbeatable when the sun’s baking down, you can chill out splashing in the water, or by sunbathing with the sounds of the ocean lapping behind you.Hotels in Puerto de La CruzPuerto de la Cruz offers the full spectrum of hotels - whether you want to save your pennies in cheap and cheerful apartments, or bask in the luxury of spectacular 5-star options with sweeping sea views. Sit out to enjoy a meal of salty sardines, or clam-sized mussels in paella, before watching as passionate performers slap and pluck flamenco guitars. The beautiful town of La Orotava, which offers great views back over the city, is another option. Be careful not to bump into anyone while walking, however, as you’ll constantly find yourself either looking up at the town’s ornate balconies and church towers, or down at its magnificent Catholic floor murals. How to get to Puerto de La CruzMost visitors touch down at Tenerife Sur Airport, rather than the smaller, northern airport. Bus services run from the south directly between the airport and Puerto de la Cruz, but you may find it easier to take the bus via Santa Cruz. Tour operators will transfer you directly, or you can hire a car if you want to get out and about. It will take about an hour to skirt around the base of the island’s huge volcano, and up to Puerto de la Cruz from the southern airport.
