Heathrow hotels and flights

Whether flying from London Heathrow (LHR) to start your holiday or returning, it's worth considering staying a night at the airport. It gives you the option of flying outside of peak times and might mean a cheaper flight if you're prepared to take off or land at less sociable hours. If you're departing from Heathrow, it can also reduce the stress of having to rush to the airport, especially if your flight is early in the morning. Using a hotel for a night time arrival means you don't have to worry about trying to make your way home just after you're landed bleary eyed and tired.

A few tips for Heathrow airport:

  • If booked in advance car parking at Heathrow can work out cheaper than taking the train (especially when using the Heathrow Express) and driving can be quicker than the train depending on how far you live from Heathrow - Heathrow is just off junction 4 of the M4 motorway.
  • For Heathrow hotels with long stay parking, simply park at the hotel overnight and then drive to Heathrow car park the next day or vice versa if you're returning to the UK - just be sure to check that hotel has parking available, the Holiday Inn currently offers this but some others don't
  • Valet parking can be well worth the cash if you really want something hassle free, again, if you book far enough in advance it can work out cheaper than the trains.
  • If you do take the train and you're in London then always look at the Heathrow Express from London Paddington rather than the underground (Piccadilly Line) it's more expensive but takes a fraction of the time.
  • You can also use a variety of buses/ coaches which will work out cheaper but possibly take longer.
  • If you plan to take a taxi to Heathrow, a hotel with a train or driving yourself may also work out cheaper. If you do decide to take a taxi then be sure to book in advance for cheaper costs and allow you to compare the rates.
  • Heathrow is one of the few international airports that don't allow hotels to run their own shuttle bus service, instead there is a hotel to terminal shuttle called Hoppa that you can use that should go from all hotels near Heathrow
  • And if you really want to save costs on the shuttle bus then the local buses can actually work out much cheaper, quite a few of them stop outside the hotels but they can be a little less convenient.
  • Only British Airways fly from Terminal 5, all other airlines will fly from terminals 1 to 3
  • If you decide on an overnight stay at Heathrow airport, the location of your hotel really matters, you want a hotel thats as close to the terminal as possible - use our map search to do this but remember that if you're driving or planning on using the shuttle services you can get a better deal staying a bit further out.
  • With Hotels.com you can also filter the hotel listings to find the cheapest hotel near Heathrow with the best price for most options such as car parking, five star/ luxury, with a gym/ swimming pool, restaurant, accessibility etc...
  • And of course, with our genuine guest reviews you can be confident of the quality of the hotels at Heathrow based on what real people think. We also include relevant reviews from Expedia and the TripAdvisor review score for our London Heathrow hotels.
