As well as taking some leisurely walks around the rolling mounds of Rough Castle, you can also unwind with a few rounds of golf at Falkirk Golf Club. Set against a lush, forested backdrop, this perfectly preened course is a great place to hone your swing before enjoying a warm, smoky whisky.

How to get to Falkirk

Edinburgh and Glasgow International airports are the closest to Falkirk, although both have limited transatlantic routes. If you're travelling from Europe, however, they are both ideal. You can hop on a shuttle bus service from Glasgow that'll drop you near the train station, and from here catch a train to Falkirk. There's also regular bus services from Edinburgh and Glasgow to the town. If you have plenty of time, you could also consider a lazy canal boat trip up to the famous Falkirk Wheel. Once in the town itself, you'll find that you can easily walk to most destinations.
