Donegal Hotels

The historic, picturesque town of Donegal is the perfect gateway to the rich variety of Ireland's countryside. Within reach of the town you'll find golden yellow beaches, rugged rolling hills, and the jagged cliffs of the nearby Bluestack Mountains. Donegal Bay is the perfect place to take in amber soaked sunsets, and there's an active surfing community here too, not to mention some pristine golf courses. Finally, there's some fascinating local historical attractions, and excellent boutique shopping on offer.

Things to see

Before venturing off into the countryside or glittering bay, shoppers are sure to want to explore Donegal town centre. Tailoring has a long tradition in Donegal, so you'll find some truly unique clothing shops in the 'Diamond', the pleasant pedestrianised shopping hub of the town. The local history, dating back to the 1600s and beyond, is also something that begs to be investigated. Donegal Castle, a unique looking 15th century keep, sits elegantly on the shimmering waters of the River Eske, and is certainly worth a visit. Little more than rubble originally, the castle was restored to its former glory in the 1990s. Being surrounded on all sides by the beautiful, varied Irish countryside is sure to tempt you to spend a day at Lake Eske. With its own splendid castle, and shimmering blue waters, it's the perfect place for a picnic, or hiking destination for a family day out.
