"OLD AND MINIMAL AMENITIES"
OK for a place to sleep, but lacking in quality. No writing desk in our room. No convenient outlets for charging. No soap provided...Dingy hallways, poor soundproofing. "Major remodeling & poor check-in service"
When I arrived very late in the evening, there were three staff behind the desk, in he unadorned lobby area, and one at the computer in the lobby for guest use checking her aol mail. It took probably 15 minutes for one of them to start to address me, and he said, "I'm sorry, I just got here, and I have to get oriented here." , then he poked around the […] desk a while, typed a while, pulled out and out on his tie, finally asked my name, and then chatted over my head to the guy that came in behind me, who I took from their conversation to be a trucker who stayed there regularly. After I finally got my key, I headed to the elevator, and found the hallway on the first floor to be scarily torn up and rough, with no carpet, holes in walls, no doors on many rooms, wires dangling from the ceiling. My room was nice enough. They gave me a handicapped accessible room, the carpet was old and stained but everything else in the room was fine. "I would stay again."
The staff is very accommodating and friendly. The facility is certainly 'older' but it provided everything that I would expect from a hotel and more.
"Hotel Stay"
Our stay at Holiday Inn Express was very comforting and very convenient. It is in an excellent location. The room was very clean and the employees were great. I will stay only there when I'm back in the area over night.

With the Convention Center so close I did not make clear notes about the address... we pulled in on 2 motorcycles after dark and made an easy find very difficult. The one way streets were a challenge. Signage at the front door would have helped us. Alas, BLIND people are likely less direction challenged!! We had a very good time in Charleston. The hotel was very convienent being right across from the civic center. Very nice staff. Also, very nice breakfast bar in the morning. It was the best hotel I've ever been to.
"Beds too small"
Really, double beds versus queen. Come on. There is plenty of room for two queens. Also, the lady at the front desk was not friendly or helpful.

The main problem was that is was not easy to find on the map. The directions were not clear. There are too many one-way streets and you really have to know how to get there, or you spend over an hour circling the same streets.

"Holiday Inn - close to Civic Center & Town Center"
My wife and I stayed here for two nights and really enjoyed our stay. The hotel was clean and well maintained and very close to the the mall and Civic Center arena. Both are within walking distance. Great place, we will definitely stay there again.

"Civic Center Holiday Inn Express"
The hotel is located right next to the mall. The breakfast is great. The showers have great water pressure. The bed is getting a little old but it slept well.
Everything was great - friendly staff, clean rooms, great breakfast. Very close to the capital.

"charleston WV civic center"
hotel was wonderful. clean room, newspaper, breakfast buffet. Hotel was very accomodating. My daughter attends college in town. After my seminar at the hotel was over, hotel transportation drove me to the campus, and came back later to drive me to the airport, as I had flown in, and did not have a car.
"NOT worth the price. OLD hotel"
This hotel is not worth your money at all. It is a very old building, the rooms look and smell old. Just because it has the holiday inn express name makes them think they can charge so much when the hotel is just terrible. When I first walked into our room this old, musty smell hit me like a ton of bricks. It was also very hot so I turned the AC as […] cold as it would go to try and make it a little more comfortable in there....which it didn't. The bathroom door didn't close right and the bed was very uncomfortable. The sheets made me itch all over and the bed was slanted which was weird. I didn't get hardly any sleep the night we spent there. The bathroom looks just as old as the rest of the place and when I first turned on the water in the bathroom the water came out very yellow as well. This hotel was just what we needed for a long road trip. It was convenient and clean. The service was fine and we only stayed one night.

"Good Experience"
The room was clean & quiet. Location was good. LOTS of towels! When I checked in, I headed to the shower. The shower did not drain so I called the desk. He said due to it being a holiday, maintenance was off that day. He did let me change rooms & he couldn't have been nicer! (thanks Joe!) Overall, I'd stay there again.

"Great Location, Needs Updating in rooms"
I traveled to Charleston to go to a convention held at the Civic Center on 11/5/09 and booked the Holiday Inn Express due to its location and availablity. It is located right across the street from the civic center enterence and one block from the Charleston Town Center Mall. I liked the location as it was fairly easy to get on and off I-64 but the […] hotel rooms needs some much needed updating. For instance the bathroom ceiling was peeling off, the tub didn't drain so when you took a shower you were standing in water, the bed squeaked everytime you moved, there was no desk located in the rooms, only a small round table so it was hard to work on your laptop and they do not have the disney channel (for my three year old). Downtown location was 1 block from riverfront, and shopping mall was less than a block away...very convenient. Great breakfast, clean rooms, very comfortable. We would stay there again.

Everything was within walking distance which was great. Some of the locals also stated that the hotel was on a good side of town which was comforting.

"Could Have Been Better"
Booked non-smoking room on-line and was given smoking room after a failed attempt at opening door with key. The chain lock was ripped off and deadbolt would not lock properly. Apparently was put in the wrong room because another guest was given the same key. Did not feel overly safe as a single young female travelling alone. Did not complain because […] tired from driving.
