Wow! What amazing service I received from the staff at this hotel! I flew into SJC for a job interview, and they not only shuttled me to and from the airport (outside of their normal airport shuttle schedule) but also drove me to and from the company I was interviewing with. Overpriced and cramped room. Also, we booked a room with a king sized bed and ended up with two doubles. Disappointed in that. Since we were inky staying one night, didn't asked to be moved.

The interior design is very contemporary, which attracted me when I was selecting a place close to Santa Clara Convention Center. Then the price is very reasonable. My son, a10 years old, kept saying “Wow, awesome”. He already spread the words among his friends. I will definitely go back there next time.

This hotel was very nice and good location around everything I needed and wanted to go. Also the ihop was a plus staying here even though it stayed quite busy. I will stay here again real soon.

It is a reasonable hotel that I can recommend. The bathroom was OK, but it a rennovation would do no harm.

Nice boutique hotel in the shadow of Yahoo and McAfee. No bar, but social hour. Toy robot hotel in the lobby.

Comfortable bed and the nice shuttle service within 5 miles. The hotel served my purpose perfectly.

This hotel far overshined my expectations. For the money it was far and above the best hotel/motel I've stayed in. Clean, friendly, nice staff, cute lobby, and the pool looked wonderful, although we didn't have time to enjoy it. Don't pass this gem up!

This hotel was uplifted from a Holiday Inn. They did a great uplift o the rooms and spaces, but it still seems like a Holiday Inn. IHOP attached, no breakfast, little coffee, coffee in room cheap (not same as their coffee in service area which is signature coffee - love the Zulu Road Warrior). I like the convenience of the location, there is an IHOP (open 24 hours but get very crowded during breakfast time) and Bennigans on the property however when you check in ask for the room away from the main street which is the Great American Pkwy street. This hotel is an open air hotel, another words the rooms are not inside the building it is open […] access, kind of like a motel so if your room is close to the main street there is lot of traffic noise, ask for a room towards the back. Also, there is no gate to keep random people from accessing the property so my suggestion is to keep the valuables out of plain sight, mind you, I am not saying the neighborhood is shady but usually rooms within an enclosed building feel bit more secure compare to an open air rooms. Located just down the street from the Convention Center, this would definitely be a lower-cost alternative if you were attending events at the Convention Center. We found the staff to be very friendly and accommodating. Great value for the price. Service could not have been better. Enjoyed the room, free wi-fi, and convenience of the I-Hop downstairs. Would definitely stay there again.

The owners have done as fine a job as can be done with this renovated hotel. Walk to breakfast, lunch or dinner. Across from Yahoo / Avaya offices, next to Mission College near 101. The staff is professional and very nice. Rooms are old school motel sized and a little small, but clean and well appointed - big upgrade from their original 70's design. […] Free wireless all over and a nice pool and gym -- and good access to running trails if you're into that like I am. All rooms open to outside, so some road and parking lot noise gets thru if you're at the front or low, but these guys have done a great job renovating and upscaling this location - and with the rates being competitive, it's a great value. The Hotel TV was broken ie not working at all. I stayed at this property about 6 years ago under the previous owners. (It was fair to bad then) I decided based n new ownership and renovations to give it a try. The pics on line made it looked like they overhauled the place but a fresh coat of paint and modern furniture just isnt enough. This property […] is in need of major repair and clean up. Further more when you stay at a exterior facing hotel such as this property as the doors and windows open into a open to the outside hall way along with the Mini blinds they should have drapes it was weird even with the blinds closed seeing people walking by from inside while lying in bed. It made me wonder can they see me. Sure enough I checked in the morning and regardless which way you twist the blinds you can see straight into the room if your tried. It seems to be a renovated motel, and I think they've done a good job with it. It still has the old motel feel to it, but it's nicely decorated, and the lobby looks like a nice place to hang out. There's not a lot right nearby (there's an IHOP attached and an OK pub right next door), but the shuttle can take you anywhere within a mile, which is great. I went to Silicon Valley for a Convention, and I chose the Avatar for about half the price of the convention hotel. The hotel was close to the convention center, had great rooms, helpful staff, free wi-fi, free breakfast at IHOP, and even a happy hour every day with free wine. Second stay here and the staff is friendly, courteous and accommodating. The shuttle from the airport and to convention activities was great. Will stay again.

Good location, convenient hotel. Restaurants in front and next door. Rooms have modern decor, but are a bit "dark". Free parking.

The whole chain of JDV properties are really affordable, amazingly decorated and ahve the most helpful staff around. They really do a great job.

It's a nice hotel and the staff were pleasant. Half of the ice machines were not working and the heater in the room.

I really enjoyed our stay at the Avatar and also would say tht I loved the soap and also the service was great.

Overall a good stay. One small suggestion. There should be a listing of the various TV channels in the rooms. I was able to receive one at the front desk when I asked however it was not accurate. Example: Fox News was not listed correctly but upon surfing the channels was able to find it.

I am really picky about places. But I was really surprise about this place! (I think this hotel used to be Days Inn back in the day). The rooms are 180 degree turn around. definitely will come back to this hotel again. ihop restaurant in the building and stores and restaurant across the street. very close to convention center. and nice staff specially the housekeeper-good job,keep it up.

I just needed a comfortable room for one one on a road trip. I was more than pleased with Avatar. The front desk agent was friendly and efficient, even gave me a bottle of wine, when I came looking for a corkscrew! Room is clean comfortable, and obviously design with the high tech neighborhood in mind.

When you first arrive at the Avatar Hotel, you're struck by the modern decor of the lobby, the "cool" robot toy displays by the fireplace, etc. The rooms have new flat screen TVs, modern interior, and everything is fresh. Upon closer inspection, I suspect it was something on the order of a redone Howard Johnson or Holiday Inn. The rooms are actually […] very small, you can see a sloppy paint and caulking job was done for the facelift, and while the furniture looks nice, it's not so comfy. The modernish lamp in the corner kept falling over too when we tried to adjust the neck. Looks cool, didn't function so well. The fact that it is connected to an IHOP alone is an indication that the Avatar is a budget hotel playing dress up. That said, it is comfy enough and clean. I would recommend the Avatar hotel to anyone that's in the area. It's one of my favorite hotels, and best services and maintained throughout. Great location also .

Enjoyed the modern room - a little smaller then what I would have liked, but it was overall a nice place!

Most of the aspects of the hotel are very good, though Air COnditioner/heating system is making lot of noise whenver it runs ...and it's not modern ...i.e. you cannot set a fixed temparature ...only 4 setting ...High/low Hot/Cold ...it does not work very well ... other than that hotel is good. Although we were there a short time we would recommend this hotel to anyone, we would have liked to stay longer! Very friendly check-in, great room, close to everything. 5 Stars!!

My only complaint is that the heater was loud. But I"m a light sleeper. Everything else was stylish and very well laid out and functional.

I stayed at this Hotel based on the good reviews I read and I must say I was satisfied. I stayed there for 1 night and was really impressed with the hotel. The staff was super friendly and the hotel had been recently renovated with a very cool "geek chic" style. The rooms are a little small, but very comfortable and the decor is very modern. They were […] obviously inspired by the copies of Dwell magazine that were in the room. My only complaint would be that their rooms with 2 beds are only double beds. I was traveling with my dad and my brother and we are all over 6 feet tall, so 2 of us sleeping in one of the double beds was very tight and they said they could not bring us a roll away because of fire code. I could see why that would be a problem because the room was a little narrow. I guess we are a pretty unique case in that most people don't have 3 large grown men sharing a room. The hotel is very easy to get to and is a better alternative to staying at a hotel right near the San Jose airport, the Avatar is only a couple minutes north of the airport, but far enough away that you don't hear it. We were in town for an event in Palo Alto and the Avatar was just 15 minutes south of Palo Alto. Rooms in Palo Alto were easily twice the price for a lesser hotel. I would stay at the Avatar again, we could not stop talking about what a good find this hotel was. Be sure to check out their collection of vintage toy robots in the lobby...very cool. They had fast free wireless internet that was a big plus. Hotel guests get a discount at the IHOP [that is attached to the lobby] and the Bennigans that is next door. If you are thinking about booking this hotel, just do it. It used to be a Holiday Inn and has been completely updated. Quick access off the highway makes this ideal place stay for shows at the Shoreline Amphitheatre. Easy to find if your coming from SFO or San Francisco. Make a quick stop thru Palo Alto and the Stanford campus too

Well, needed a last minute room - and the price was right on Hotels.com - so I booked and my 6 year old daughter was absolutely enchanted with this place! For me, hotel was only slightly above average - the furnishings have a mod retro quality that gives it a certain charm - however - beware, I was overcharged by the hotel and I'm quite unhappy. Room was bright and pleasantly appointed. Walls are a bit thin. Too easy to hear toilets flushing next door. Great bargain for what you get and location rocks.
