We enjoyed the stay and felt overall comfortable. Down side, the room temperature was too hot and adjusting the thermostat didn't do anything when we turned it down, to cool, or even off. Also, sauna is not included in fee--maybe I should have known--I didn't pay attention. This is my second stay at the Jin Jiang Cathay this year. The hotel is one of several hotel buildings in a garden enclave in the center of the French Concession, convenient to transportation, sights, restaurants and shopping. This historic hotel is definitely impressive at first blush, but I was turned off by some minor issues. #1 there is a 15% service upcharge when you check in which hotels.com fails to mention. #2 our room was comfortable, but there was a screwdriver left in our shower, and a fruit pit on the floor of our bathroom. Huge rooms that are well equipped and clean. You couldn't really ask for a better hotel room. Located close to a subway station in one of the nicest neighborhoods of Shanghai. Only downside was that getting from airport to hotel is a bit complicated (either several subways or bus/train + walking/taxi).

Pros: Spotless room and lobby. Nice fitness center and swimming pool. Good location near restaurants and subway station. Cons: A hotel of this caliber should provide free internet stations. We stayed at several hotels in China (including a Novotel and a youth hostel) and the Jin Jiang was the only one that charged for use of an internet station. Location is near MRT station, within 5 min walk. Very clean room and comfortable bed. Easily reachable from Pudong airport by taking airport shuttle no.2 to Jingan temple and then via 5~10min taxi ride.

Because I booked a special on Expedia- I received a small room with double beds and I got no breakfast or internet all additional. The door men were nice and tried to help but many had poor english. The checkin staff was cold and a little unfriendly. The Gym for a major Chinese hotel was small but the staff was nice. Upon leaving I checked out before […] I was actually out of the room to be sure there was no hold up because of it being slow before but when I checked out they turned off my internet that I have paid for so when I not back to the room I would not finish my work and call the front dest provided no answers other than we can not help. Always good, great location, Service good, clean room, only problem not enough English channels and movies on tv, good that hotel now has wifi, but should be free and no charge and available 24/7 and not charged at 24 hour intervals

Altough the hotel is quite old the rooms have been refurbished and are very comfortable. Food was very good, liked that there was only 5 floors instead of spending ages waiting for lifts up to high rise hotels.

This was the third time that I stayed at the Jin Jiang. The first was in 1986, at that time I was delighted with the restaurant and especially at the buffet breakfast and location. None of that has changed the buffet breakfast is still super with labor intensive Shanghai specialties and international breakfast . My husband loved the soup noodles in […] which fresh wheat noodles are used. He liked them so much I asked the restaurant manager if I might buy some to take home to the U.S. He went to the kitchen and presented me with a bag of noodles as a gift. Two years ago my whole family of 11 stayed at the hotel including 3 grandchildren the Concierge went out of their way to assure us of a super visit. There is also swimming pool and hairdresser on the compound. On a rainy day they will even use the golf card to take you roundtrip to the hairdresser about a block away so that your hairstyle does not get ruined. At night if you are too tired they will take you to the famous Shanghai style restaurant by goldfcart. All this done with a concern for the guests. I highly recommend the Jin Jiang Hotel in Mao Ming Road. Читати далі

This is definitely a fantastic hotel. They have amazing rooms and restaurants. Included is also an indoor heated pool and if you pay a little more they have a sauna, steam room, and spa. It also had a great location to walk down Huaihai Commercial Street to the museum where they have hop-on hop-off tourist busses to all major attractions (30 Yen/24 […] hours). Complaints - although they gave me an upgrade to a two be suite, I had booked a king-sized bed. Also, the bathroom was a amazing with a 6' x 4' walk-in shower, but there was no heat in there and the floor was incredibly cold (winter). Good location, old world charm and nice rooms, thats about it. Semi-warm service from staff and prostitutes in the lobby pushing massage service bring down the overall rating.

Historic hotel (it was once a state guest house where various dignitaries stayed) with character and a good location; the staff moved us to a larger room since we were travelling with two children.

No complaints. Staff spoke reasonable English, the room was clean, and the sink had an s-bend (no smell in bathroom).

I wasn't expecting what it turned out to be. The location was excellent for a mall right next door to the hotel and very easy to speak to the staff. They went out of their way to please you and make sure what you needed was satisfied! Excellent restaurant food and service as well.

Carpet needed cleaning. No hot water in shower, although ok in tub and sink. Didn't think the staff was particularlyhelpful. But, over all, would recommend this hotel. Great location, and a very nice room overall.

Jin Jiang is in the French Concession which is a great part of Shanghai. Overall, this hotel was good. Not as crowded as the Bund but will still plenty of sights to see. We had an extended stay - almost three weeks - and this was a relatively economical choice. It has been around for many decades but our room was in the Cathay Gardens tower and seemed […] good as new. Plus: *location definitely great *lots of outdoor open space at the hotel - unusual for Shanghai and I doubt you will find it at any other hotel. Plenty of room on the lawn to kick a ball with your kids *rooms were clean *lots of restaurants within a five minute walk - many right on premises (but the Indian place attached to the hotel was super expensive!) Negative: *only front desk spoke English *the pool was dated and pretty crowded - not kid friendly and the gym was sort of small (have to add that the locally made instruction manual for the treadmill was titled "Elucidation uses the apparatus". This newly renovated building is lovely to say the least. However, should you need assistance getting around, the staff has a very limited knowledge of English and things, like ordering a cab to the airport prior gets lost in the shuffle. Other than that the grounds are lovely as is the French Concession area which it is situated in.

This is a very attractive hotel with good facilities. We stayed in the Cathy Garden building and enjoyed it. The Cathy Building may be a bit higher end--larger rooms, etc. The pool is great. Very clean, quiet, & helpful staff. The room was great and a comfotable bed. The suroundings and the neighborhood were a mixture of old and new Shanghai. The shopping district was just a block away. Would definitely recommend to friends.

Great Chinese-style hotel. Room in Cathay Garden overlooked interior garden courtyard and was very quiet. Tea in room was top quality. Concierge did not speak english and could not recommend restaurants. Breakfast was very expensive so book room & breakfast if possible.

The hotel is located in the heart of old Shanghai with subway nearby. It is in a "garden", thus isolated from the noise on the street and traffic. The service is superb and the restaurant is good.
