The Fairmont Orchid is a great hotel on the Big Island. Comfortable rooms, lots of restaurant options, great pool and view of the ocean. It's fairly isolated, so renting a car is a good idea if you want to see the island (and car rentals are cheap). Great hotel! Beatiful location, super friendly staff. But: $22 for valet parking, $17 for self parking, $31 breakfast buffet and it goes on. Delux ocean view room has a partial view of the ocean.

Wonderful resort experience. Our room had a partial ocean view overlooking the beautiful golf course and was tranquil and quiet - just what we were looking for. The room was spotless and very recently updated including a fresh coat of paint without a single mar or scratch on the walls. The rooms have refrigerators which was convenient. Self park costs […] nearly as much as valet so we used the valet. Good exercise facility and yoga classes including "FloYo" which takes place in their beach lagoon on paddleboards for those who might enjoy this (my wife enjoyed it immensely). Читати далі

I booked a partial ocean view deluxe type of room with a king bed months before my trip to the Big Island Hawaii for a romantic getaway. The type of room with king bed was confirmed on the Expedia itinerary. When I arrived at the Fairmont Orchard I was informed by the front desk personnel that they only had a room with two queen beds. I was told by […] the front desk staff that room type is not guaranteed when booking through Expedia. Even though I am a member of the Fairmont President's Club, I was told that no rooms with a king bed were available and that I had no choice but to take the room with two queens. The room itself had not been properly cleaned. There were cookie crumbs all over the floor that you could obviously feel when walking barefoot. I had to call for housekeeping to come and vacuum the room. Not the level of cleanliness that I would expect from a five star hotel. Although the hotel serving staff at the pool, bars, and restaurant were excellent, the front desk personnel were generally rude and not at all helpful. Valet parking is understaffed and expect to wait a while for your car if you valet. On a positive note: This used to be the Ritz Carlton, and the hotel in general still feels like a Ritz. I had stayed at this hotel about 15 years ago when it was the Ritz, and the hotel common areas are still beautiful, wonderfully landscaped, and well kept up. This hotel does not show its age. Good hotel. Friendly staff, nice ameneties. Unfortunately, I had a cockroach crawl into my room right as room service was coming with my dinner. Good-sized cockroach. Probably wouldn't stay here again, nothing special at this hotel compared to the ones around it

We loved swimming in the free form pool, around hibiscus and palm trees, next to the ocean. It took me 7 minutes to swim one entire passage around the pool. Warm water, warm day, I was usually alone swimming daily 8-9 a.m. The pool is only 3 1/2 feet deep, so also would be ideal for water walkers. Big soft towels are provided by the pool. Snorkeling […] amid turles and colorful fish in the hotel's very large beautiful lagoon was best of any of the 4 islands we have visited. Winter ocean waters being especially dangerous, swimming and snorkeling in protected hotel waters is a priority. What gorgeous grounds, with stunning waterfalls, abundant flowers, exotic plants. Our comfy room looked out on ocean and mountains. Loved our evening dinners at their beach cafe, watching the sun set over the ocean, sipping our mai tais and strawberrry-coconut smoothie. Beautiful location, nice variety of restaurants (they morph from breakfast buffet in the morning to Japanese dining in the evening). Several out door restaurants for lunch and dinner. The pool area is very nice. There seemed to be a lot of young couples with young children, as well as seniors. Golf courses didn't seem to be busy anytime of day. Lovely […] Hawaiian musicians in the evening at the Luana Lounge (before and after sunset) and Brown's Restaurant during the dinner hour. This is a beautiful property, very comfortable and relaxing. The staff is friendly and accomodating. I was there a short time so I did not use the spa or all of the dining options at the property, but proximity of shops was a positive for shopping and dininng.

A very upscale experience. The pool is large and you don't have to fight for space. The beach cove is perfect for children. The rooms are spotless and very comfortable. The staff is extremely accommodating to any of your needs. There is a refrigerator in the room and a great grocery store down the road for small items. I'll be back.

This property failed to manage the peak season crowd during the Christmas holiday and demonstrated frustrating service inconsistency on a daily basis. If you go there, find out in advance if the hotel is fully booked. If so, be careful because there is not enough capacity in their shared facilities - restaurants, pool, beach, etc - to handle a fully […] occupied hotel. We endured long waits for seating and food at the restaurants (simple things like plates weren't available some days on the breakfast buffet), we had to fight to get a space near the pool, and the other hotel guests were forced to be overly assertive which made the entire stay anything but relaxing. The hotel, room accommodations, and general experience are great. The front desk and bell staff provided the kind of service you'd hope for and expect at the Fairmont. However - other service staff was decidedly disappointing, particularly in the restaurants. A superb and well run hotel with pleasant and friendly staff. Hotel location is wonderful and the rooms are comfortable, clean and well appointed. Since our last visit, where I was annoyed they deemed it necessary to charge for parking, it was a very pleasant surprise to find that this was no longer the case. Well done.

The hotel was great. Expected to have ridiculously priced food and was not disappointed, but at least it was okay. Golf course was great, friendly staff, the room was perfect. We have only two areas that the hotel could improve: 1. The main swimming pool needs to be heated; 2. The hallways don't need to be so air conditioned.

Exceptional service, friendly staff, beautifully maintained grounds, lots of great beachfront property adjacent and onsite to walk or jog along, lagoon was great for water activities staying close to the resort...definitely would recommend.

The Fairmont is a beautiful property with VERY friendly staff and great location. The Concierge desk gave us great recommendations from places to eat and activities to do. Be prepared to pay high prices for the restaurant experience. The food is pretty good, just expensive. They've just done some renovations to the rooms and it looks great.

Beautiful resort, extremely quiet. Had the entire swimming pool to myself on more than one occasion. Staff could not be more friendly. Highly recommend!!!

This hotel is not for kids. Good for adults that want a quiet and relaxing stay. The shuttle service is the best! They take you next door to Maunalani, which we ate for Breakfast Buffet. They also take you to the small shopping center that had the greatest Japanese Restaurant and a grocery store that you can get cheaper food. The cove beach area is […] the nicest I have ever seen on the islands ( and I live here!) a really nice place to snorkel, paddle board, catch crabs and have fun with kids. We sat and watched the sun set and collected sea shells. I highly recommend if you want someplace quiet. It is close to Waimea (20min drive) but far from the airport and Kailua Kona town (45mins). This is an excellent hotel. I have two complaints: Expedia indicated this was a 'children free' hotel. It was not. The hotel charged $17 for self-parking daily. This is a ridiculous fee considering there is plenty of space in the island. This charge should have been included in the overall fee, more over, parking should be complimentary.

We went for anniversary trip and couldn't have been happier. The room overlooked fabulous gardens and we were steps from the beach. Staff was excellent. Would recommend to anyone.

We loved the Fairmont Orchid and look forward to returning in the future. Several floors of rooms in the south tower had been taken out of service for refurbishment so the resort was quieter than usual (mid Sept '12). Our room hadn't been refurbished yet but was still very nice. The grounds are beautifully landscaped. Everything was very beautiful. The only thing we not reserve an ocean view room because it was not worth the extra money. The block wall on the patio is too tall to see over. We definately will return and wish for a room that faces the pool on the north side. Georgeous! I was spoiled back in 2008 when I stayed at the Kona Village: it was a unique, magical place. Unfortunately, it sustained heavy damage from the 2011 tsunami and has not reopened. I am happy to say that while it's not Kona Village, the Fairmont Orchid has a very similar feel. It is a small, intimiate, romantic resort with beautiful decor and the grounds […] are just gorgeous with all the tropical plantings. There are plenty of places to just hang out and relax whether you want to have sun or shade whether you are on the beach, by the pool, or lounging in comfy chairs on the hotel lanais. The priviate bay is teeming with all kinds of fish and honu so snorkeling is excellent. It is a family-friendly resort and the keiki (kids) have so much fun playing in the sand and water of the sheltered cove. The staff are friendly, courteous, and helpful. As a single woman who often vacations by herself, I felt very comforatable there and by the end of my stay, everyone knew my name which made it extra special. Expensive-but what isn't in Hawaii. Resort was great. Housekeeping did an excellent job every day. W/in a mile of small shopping w/ 5 restaurants, groecery store, coffee shop. About 2-3 miles south is much bigger shopping area.

The hotel was amazing. I am so glad that I joined the Fairmont President's Club before going (it's free) - there were all sorts of extra perks from that. I would definitely stay here again.

The grounds are beautiful. Beach access is limited to the small bay which is used mostly by children. The rooms are nice but are in need of remodeling. For example, scuffed doors and baseboards, stains on carpet etc. The hotel is central to many other beautiful beaches that you can drive to.

Gardens are fantastic, hot tubs are superb, food is so-so for the price but good restuarants nearby. Snorkelling directly off the hotel is very good if you swim out a bit.

We stayed here on the last night of eight nights on the big island. Beautiful hotel and location. We are not big resort people (we spent most nights at B&Bs) and found it a nice change of pace. However, some things on site are quite expensive and they charge for basically every little incidental. Grocery stores are a short drive away.
