"Great except the unreasonable long dist. charge"
Overall, a very pleasant stay. Our room was fantastic (sea/pool view) with a nice large bathroom. As seems to be noted in all the reviews, the pool/beach area is second to none. We tried to sample all of the venues. Belgian cafe was the fav. Palomas was okay, about what I expected. The final night we took in the Tuesday night Carribean themed seafood […] buffet. I was expecting a wider selection of seafood (hammour and salmon perhaps) instead of many versions of prawns and lobster. Unfortunately, it turned 'cold' and windy that day so it made for an unpleasant dining experience, which of course is no fault of the hotel. However, the band played on courageously, so a tip of my cap to them. As well, when we noticed that the particular wine that my gf favoured was only available by the bottle a short conversation with the manager produced it by the glass right away. Finally, after hovering around the bonfire on the beach for some much needed warmth after our meal while taking in the Eid holiday fireworks (great view) my gf somehow dropped her blackberry (one too many glasses of that wine perhaps). Fortunately one of the staff picked it up during their end of night cleanup and we were able to retrieve it immediately. I didn't catch his name but a big thanks. My only complaint was the outrageous charge for a long distance call i made using the land line in my room. About a 15 min call to Dubai cost me 318 QAR ($90)! Читати далі

"Nice but expensive"
As an Intercontinental (managed) hotel, the ‘Intercontinental, Doha’, comes with all the pluses, and minuses, of that chain. It’s well appointed (if rather formulaic), comfortable (if lacking charm), courteous (if not friendly) and acceptable (if not desirable). What it isn’t is value for money! I chose it because the room rates looked good in comparison […] with some of the other 4-star hotels but the extra costs make this a quite expensive hotel – especially for what you get. My partner’s no mathematician so the charge for the minibar half-bottle of red wine came as a bit of a shock on the bill, it would have been more appropriate for a full bottle at a Michelin Star restaurant!. And that is fairly typical for the other services. A fairly standard starter (salad) buffet seems a bit on the high side, at least twice what I'd pay for a main course at a good London restaurant. So be warned! I guess they feel they can get away with it, either because a lot of guests are on expenses, or because it is fairly distant from other restaurants and services – although it is worth noting the newly opened Qatara cultural development nearby does have a wealth of restaurants, so perhaps things will improve. You should also be aware that it is right next door to a building site, and although the work is nearing completion you do get the early morning ‘hammering’. In fairness much of Doha seems to be a building site so it can be tricky to find somewhere where this problem isn’t occurring, but my gripe is really that I had to pay for an upgrade so our room did not look over the builder’s yard but towards the sea. And my particular ‘bug-bear’, silly charges for Internet access. The charge for 24 hours obviously idn’t represent anything like the cost of providing this service, and personally at the room rate they charge it should be free. Excellent service, clean, nice beach. Hotel is great, too bad they are buiding bigger hotels around it. Otherwise superb. Shuttle brings you to and from Airport, shopping mall, soukh. If you arrive after 9:00pm you have to take taxi to the hotel (45 rial). Good restaurants on the property.
