The Barcelona Universal was a great hotel for me. Convenient, with a Metro stop directly in front of the entrance, and within walking distance of the marina, cruise port, and Las Ramblas. The hotel has a very contemporary design and has a bar on the entry level and a restaurant on the 1st floor. There is a small rooftop pool, exercise room and rooftop […] garden/sunning area. In 2010, we stayed at this hotel prior to our cruise. We liked the location, and the room we stayed, we decided to book the same hotel this year before and after our cruise again. The room we had was even better. Large size, king size bed, with better configuration. There is a small dividing wall that provides quietness when my husband went to bed, […] and I kept the TV on. There is an additional TV on a stand for the "bedroom" side, The bathroom is really nice size, long counter, a magnifing mirror, and a huge round tub! It has the toilet in a separate area. We truly enjoyed our stay there, ate their buffet dinner twice, very good selections. My only concern is the lighting in the room. Evidently previous guest had the similar problem, and we used the floor lamp nicely in the "living room area" There is the metro station right outside the hotel, a few eating places for breakfast, etc.on the same side of the street if you do not wish to venture too far. It's a few blocks from La Rambla, the big department store, and many shops along Gracias. The staff is very friendly, helpful. Last, but not the least, it's their free Internet, and Wi-Fi. We have no complaints whatsoever. If we visit Barcelona again, we will stay at this hotel again. Читати далі

GREAT LOCATION BUT NOT @ ALL 4 STARS!

The hotel is very clean and modern. Most important of all for me was that the bed was comfortable and the staff were friendly. The metro is situated in the corner, but it is conveniently located for people to walk to interesting tourist sites as well.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights. The hotel is right in front of the Para-lel station which is very convenient. The neighborhood around the hotel is just OK, not really much to see except taking the train up to Montjuic. We got the buffet breakfast which I really recommend. Everything was delicious and fresh and there's something for everyone […] (Spanish omelettes, ham, sausages, or more "continental" fare). Not many complaints except the shower door didn't cover the shower the whole way so we were always getting the bathroom floor wet whenever we took showers. Also, our room was overlooking the busy Para-lel street and it was kind of noisy, but not too bad. If you're a light sleeper, it could be a deal breaker. Hotel and staff were everything we were hoping for, pleasant and helpful throughout. Hotel location could not have been better for our weekend stay.

Room was nice (large for Europe) and clean. Bed was comfortable. Biggest complaint was the street noise. Do not accept low floor on front of hotel or you will feel like you are sleeping in the street. Car noise, people yelling, talking...etc. (subway station is right in front of hotel making it convenient but a high traffic area). The hotel was modern, the staff friendly, the location very good and it was quiet. Very comfortable stay with good amenities. My only complaints would be that we had only one small location in our room that we could access the free wireless internet and no bath mat and the floors were very slippery when wet. Pleasantly surprised by the quality of the room for the money. The internet connection was fast but use a hard line, WiFi not so much. The showers were great with plenty of hot water. Hotel excellent position, short walk from city centre & beaches. Ideal for Metro & bus routes. Room was large and clean, be it a bit noisy at the front of the Hotel overlooking the main road. Did not eat in the Hotel, Numerous bars and cafes just outside. Would recommend Hotel to others.

Excellent location right next to the metro and 5 mins walk to the ramblas and harbour, Good pubs and shops nearby also, Rooms were ery clean and comfortable as was the rest of the hotel, buffet breakfast was excellent and i would highly recommend this hotel for anyone going to Barcelona. My wife and I stayed at the hotel for 4 nights and it was pure pleasure. The hotel is located at a great place, 10 minutes from La Ramblas. In addition, there are great local restaurants nearby. We ate breakfast in a small coffee shop 3 minutes from the hotel for great price (4euro per person). The room was great, big bed and closet, nice bathroom and […] overall very nice looking. The GREATEST thing about the hotel is its people. We had 2 specific personal in the reception that helped us with places to visit and where should we eat. We ate in a great local places for a good price and amazing Spanish vibe. It was amazing how far they're willing to help you enjoy your visit and we most appreciate it. We stayed at the Universal for 3 nights in October. Very good service, friendly staff, great breakfast, huge beds and very well appointed bedrooms. Location close to La Rambla and right at a metro station with great connections to reach key sights in one trip. Great tips from Reception for two excellent local restaurants. Give it a go !!

This hotel is right next to a metro stop, making it just a few minutes from Las Ramblas. This hotel was located only 5-10 min walk to Las Ramblas. Also the metro station is just outside the door. The staff was great and always helpful. My parents thought their bed was too small, so they ended up switching them to another room with a bigger bed with no fuss. Francisco Molina who worked at the front desk, went out of his way to do some research […] for us on a restaurant that we wanted to try. He googled it and even gave us directions. Also there are several restaurants next door that you eat at and many convenience stores. The room was decent sized, had a safe, big bathroom, and air conditioning was really cold! We travelled in a group of 12, and while 5 stayed at the Barcelona W hotel, myself and 6 others stayed at the Barcelona Universal. Those of us who stayed at the Barcelona Universal thoroughly agreed that we had the better experience in Barcelona. Our hotel was within walking distance to the Placa Espanol, La Ramblas, and many restaurants and cafes. […] And for those sites not within walking distance, the Metro stop was right outside of the hotel. Guest services were friendly and knowledgeable, and had great tips and advice for guests on how to prevent becoming a target of pickpockets, how to choose between the metro, taxi and bus when travelling to specific sites, and had recommendations on different sites and experiences. The hotel also offered discount tickes for the Barcelona City Hop-On-Hop-Off Bus, and helped make our booking to a Flamenco show way easier. The rooms were clean, and although the air conditioning was broken in the hotel for the first 2 nights of our stay, we managed to survive by always making sure our curtains were closed during the strongest hours of the Spanish sun. Most importantly, the hotel offered two laptops with free internet that we could access had all hours of the night, as well as free wifi throughout the hotel (though the reception were really shaky). However, the sound-proofing of the hotel may not be up to some North American standards. We could easily overhear conversations of people walking in the hallways, and the constant car horns from the streets and occasional party-ers in the restaurants around the hotel may disturb some guests. No one in my party were particularly disturbed by the noise. Overall, we were thoroughly impressed with the hotel. We would defintely stay there again the next time we're in Barcelona! Читати далі

This hotel was very clean, bed was more comfortable than expected. Room was pretty spacious with nice bathroom. Rooftop pool is nice. Not very close to any shopping. Nice tapas restaurant around the corner and within walking distance (10-15 minutes) to the port area (Columbus Statue)

Overall my stay at this hotel was excellent. The only negative was the fact that the diningroom did not open until 7:30 PM

Great hotel in a good location. Nothing is easy to find in Barcelona, but the hotel was about as easy it gets. Clean, comfortable and convenient (right off the Metro Line). It's a couple of blocks from the action, but it's close enough you can walk to most of the main attractions in Barcelona. However, a little bit of a hike if you're going to Sangrada […] Familia side of town though. The staff was nice, spoke English and very helpful. Very comfortable stay, the hotel rooms are quite spacious and very clean. I would recommend this to anyone who visits Barcelona.

Good hotel in a decent location. Breakfast is overpriced (14 Euros or so) for what you get (weak buffet). Didn't like having to call down to the front desk to get an iron and ironing board - should be in all the rooms. If I had to do it over again, I would have tried to find a good hotel in La Ribera / Barri Gotic, which is a nicer area of the city […] and is in the middle of many of the tourist sites. Читати далі

The hotel was easy to get to from te airport. A van with four people and four suitcases was 25 E's for us. We Arrivaled early and was not surprised that we could not get into the hotel room when we walked into the hotel. But it wasn't until 3PM that a room was cleaned and opened for us. We had a room at the front of the hotel and didn't have any problem […] with noise. The room was small, but clean; the bathroom was again clean and lots of room. The only thing that we were not happy was the meals we had a the hotel diningroom. A people would be better off with a meal from one of the restraurants off the street. Hotel Barcelona Universal is a comfortable "business" hotel. It is bland - but it has a pleasant demeanour and a rooftop pool. The complementary wifi was a big plus for me. This is flaky at times - but it is a life saver if you use a notebook, iPhone & iPad as much as me! The great advantage of this hotel is that it is in safe walking distance of the […] main tourist area down near the wharf. Great restaurants are close by - and the staff at the front desk are helpful (and occasionally cheeky in a good way). I was there for three days and they recommended an open bus tour without blinking. It was a good way to see the sites in minimum time. They also told me which restaurants to avoid as well in the area. It all helps for the uninitiated! As a side issue, I got the impression that not all the hotels systems were in sync. Everything regarding this hotel suited us perfectly. The staff were smart polite and very helpful. The hotel was first class and it was nice to have a breakfast included in our price.The metro was right outside the door which was very handy and I would stay there again, although I personally would request a room at the back as I found the road noise […] bothersome. One thing. It would be grate with one more mirror in the hotel room- we had a triple room. There was only one mirror in the bathroom.

Great hotel. Value for money. Good area. Little far from Las Ramblas (15 mins) but ok if you like walking. Over all a very very good boutique hotel.

Great value. Very nice and comfortable furnishings, including a mini bar. We had a room facing the busy street, but new insulated double windows and layers of black out and drapes kept the noise to a reasonable level. Our overall rating for this hotel is "satisfactory". Room is clean and the location is good. Our complaints are the elevator noice and the people walking/talking in the hallway penetrated into our room and bothersome. When we reported the noise, the front desk attendant was willing to change our room . Travelled to Barcelona for the first time and fell in love. Hotel Barcelona Universal was at the epicenter of all our activities, and the surrounding area is BEAUTIFUL. 4 friends and I stayed at this hotel in September, with 3 in a 3-bed suite and 2 in a regular 2-bed room. The hotel is very modern and nicely finished inside. We are all tourists from Canada and speak little Spanish, but we found the staff went above and beyond to help us and meet our needs despite the language barrier. All close to perfect. The only thing we found unusual is that to have your room cleaned you are expected to leave this hanging note on the outside of the door handle. If you don't -they might not clean the room. This seems to be accepted practice in other hotels in Barcelona. We are more used to leave a note outside if you DO NOT WANT TO BE DISTURBED. […] Not the other way round. Other than that all is perfect and very good value for money including breakfast. The hotel is literally steps from the metro and a short walk to Las Ramblas. Good sized room with working air conditioner. Free internet access in the business center. The room had two twin beds that were pushed together to make a larger bed - however, the beds were made separately and moved apart during the night.
