Pretty decent no frills hotel which is good value for money. Has a pretty much 70's look and feel. Taxi into the city under $10 and super close to the college, not a bad spot.

This hotel was in a good neighborhood and was clean though way outdated. One bed had broken box springs. The towels were just a little bit bigger than a hand towel. It has paper thin walls with many loud people staying there. My teen boys who can sleep through anything could not sleep at all due to the loud noises throughout the night from other guests. […] Even though there were no big events going on in town during our stay the low price must attract the party crowd who stay up all night. We stayed here for two nights while I was visit U of M. The hotel was definitely outdated, but it was also well maintained. It was very clean and provided all the essentials. There was a coffee pot in the room, which was good. No tub, just a shower stall. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast was minimal but decent. For this low of a price this […] close to campus it's a steal. Definitely worth it if you're not looking to physically be in your room a lot. I would stay there again. Читати далі

It has what you need, but not a lot of extras. The room was clean, the staff was very nice. The breakfast was simple, but sufficent, two kinds of dry cereal, several flavors of oatmeal, plain bagels, english muffins, milk, orange and apple juice. Better cable options than many chain hotels. Did not try out the wifi. Very close to campus, with a Trader […] Joes just around the corner. Hotels.com defines a 2 star as: Typically smaller hotels managed by the proprietor. The hotel is often 2 - 4 stories high and usually has a more personal atmosphere. It′s usually located near affordable attractions, major intersections and convenient to public transportation. Furnishings and facilities are clean but basic. Most will not have a restaurant on site but are usually within walking distance to some good low-priced dining. Public access, past certain hours, may be restricted. Thta is the Lamp Post in a nutshell. It is a motor lodge, which I find convenient since my car is right outside my room. The neighborhood seemd very nice, but if only one door between you and the outside world concerns you, you probably want to go somewhere else. Читати далі

After reading some of the reviews on here i was a little unsure of what i would find after check in. The ratings are all over on here so i will try to give you a somewhat acurate picture of what to expect based on what i experienced. PROS: The Inn is located in a nice, safe area. Clean inside and out, lighted parking lot. My room was clean, no smells, […] pleasant looking with a good TV, coffee pot, ample coat hooks and clothes storage. The beds were very comfortable and i do not have the best back so that is always a plus for me. All of the staff were extremely friendly, helpful, and polite. A decent continental breakfast was served in the morning and was very refreshing. CONS: As most 3 star and below rated hotels i have found, outside noise is not completely shut out. But it was not intolerable- unless you are a very light sleeper. A couple of disrespectfully loud ladies who where outside our window at 1am laughing and screaming i do not see as the fault of the hotel. Some minor updating of the room was needed- the drain plug in the tub was rusting; but the bathroom and everything was clean and satisfactory. What This Inn is not: It is not a four star hotel. Do not expect the room to look like it was just furnished. It is quaintly 90's and decorated in good homey taste. What This Inn is: (in my opinion) A nice, clean, place that is comfortable, relaxing, conveniently located, and an amazing place to sleep for the money. If i need to stay in Ann Arbor area again, this is the first place i will check. All the chain hotels that are very comparable to the quality of Lamp Post Inn were a third the cost MORE on up! NOTE: I am not sure what time, but the girl at the counter said the front desk closes during the night. Make sure you do not lose your key or you might not get back in your room right away! My stay was nice. For the price I paid, it was very clean and exactly what I expected. Only thing I would change would be the towels. Small and thin. Not my cup of tea.

The pictures represented and descriptions given were not at in keeping with the reality of this hotel. the windows had inadequate covering, the floor was extremely dirty. Overall, it is a very battered establishment and not at all the quaint and picturesque as shown on hotels.com

The lamp post is in very comfortable and clean. It is a great deal! Also within a stone's throw of a Trader Joe's.

In a word: Yuck. I don't really know what I was expecting for the price, but in retrospect I suppose my expectations were too high. The front desk staff were nice and quick to point out their amenities (free continental breakfast, free wifi, a Trader Joes next door) but once we got to our room all warm feelings toward Lamp Post Inn went out the window. […] All WARMTH, for that matter, went out the window. The heater was on full blast and there was still some mysterious frosty draft blowing about at floor level during our entire stay. The furniture, carpet and linens were outdated, dingy and clearly "well-used". The paint and bathroom tiles were peeling and cracked. However, I'll give the housekeeping service credit where credits due, the room was as clean as possible I suppose. I think it's pretty difficult to get decades of hair products, smoke and body odor out of everything. And lord knows what those carpets have seen. The pillows were flat, rough and had that slight eau de someone-else's-sweat smell. The sheets & towels were hard & scratchy and felt like they'd never know the gentle caress of a fabric softener sheet. We became especially disappointed with our hotel choice once we tried to go to sleep. We were on the first floor (117) next to the stairs and the front of our room faced the parking lot (most of the rooms face the parking lot). A family arrived around midnight and we could hear the father barking orders from the car to everyone and we could hear people lugging suitcases and themselves up the stairs, car doors opening and slamming, and people walking around above us. It seemed to go on forever and sounded like it was RIGHT in our room. Then, as if that wasn't enough, some drunk guy and his friend went out in the parking lot to loudly recount the events of their Saturday night. Once again, it sounded as though they were RIGHT in our room. Overall a really disappointing experience. I think Lamp Post Inn is better suited for an awkward middle-aged profe Читати далі

My Daughter is a student at Eastern Michigan which is a very short drive. The hotel is very clean, is centrally located to everything. The breakfast had what we normally eat. A bagel with cream cheese and a warm oatmeal. Yum, yum. A little out dated, but you can not beat the price.

I stayed here just for one night. Although the building was old, all the necessary things were available. Wireless internet worked well, hot water, heater, cable, comfortable and clean bed. Very friendly front desk person. Very good location (ann arbor is not too big to begin with). For the price, this hotel was great!

I was in Ann Arbor to attend an open house for graduate school. The Lamp Post Inn was a very reasonable price. The room was basic and not updated, but still clean and comfortable and it had a microwave, refrigerator, and iron. I would rather have a reasonable price than a hotel with a flat panel television. Next door was a Trader Joe's, so I was able […] to buy a few groceries. The continental breakfast was disappointing, but that is my only complaint. For the price, great value but definitely not luxurious by any means. I stayed here for one night and it was relatively close to the University of Michigan (where I was headed the next morning) by car. Don't expect a nice plush bed, but free internet was nice staff was friendly.

The prices aren't quite in the 60's, but less expensive than the competition. Shower only, but lots of hot water. Staff was friendly. Breakfast was better than "gas station food" with name brand cereals and Philly Cream Cheese for the bagels.

The hotel was not as clean as I had hoped but it was very conveniently located.

It had obviously been a while since the LPI was last renovated, however the room was extremely clean and comfortable enough. It was as excellent value for the money and we will stay there again next visit.

We stayed at this Inn once before and this time we ended up in the same room as before. I had commented before about the grimy carpet and they had it replaced. Coinsedence? I don't know, but it made me feel good to think that they listen to the reviews. Great service, good breakfast bar. The heat/ac unit was not loud, we did not get over heated or cold. […] The unit kept the temperature perfect. I would recommend this Inn to everyone. Читати далі

Some parts of the motel have seen better days, but other parts are in amazingly good condition for their age. None the less the motel is being maintained and is very clean. I will stay there again.

You can't beat the value of being this close to campus in a clean, safe hotel for such a low price.

no frills here, if you need a cheap room consider it here, but bring your own towels, the wash cloth sized towel is inadequate for me and they do not hand out more than 1 per person... (like I'd steal that thing)

We asked for 2 rooms next to each other and we got it. This has never happened with other hotels. Checkout time is 11am, but, we needed to checkout at 6:30 am and the office was closed. We had to leave the key in the mailbox.

The Lamp Post Inn is a convenient and cheap place to stay. It is a bit far away from the centre of Ann Arbor and a bit run down but it's well maintained in terms of cleanliness. If you need a place to stay for a night (or two) while in AA and you're not too picky, the Lamp Post Inn is your place.

The rooms are in poor condition and haven't been renovated in this century. If you need a place to crash for 1 night, and this is the only place available in town, then pick it.

Although the motel scores well on cleanliness, comfort, convenience, etc. There is one serious problem. It seems the wooden entry doors to rooms swell in hot humid weather - I could not open the door to exit my room in the morning. I had to call the desk for assistance. This is an older hotel. Rooms and not all that modern. Bathrooms are huge. Rooms smell a tad musty, but thats due to the wall/window a/c unit. Clean, big bathrooms. If you are looking for an OK place to stay, and you really dont care about perks, this is the place. The motel is not horrible but not great either. Jump back 30 or 40 years and that would improve. The room was large but everything in it was.... subpar. Mattress was cheap, pillows were cheap, table and chairs were small and a bit rickety, no iron. Yes it had a mini fridge, but it was difficult to open and seen better days. Nice bagain hotel. If you are looking for a nice hotel to help you stay in your budget this is the place. No frills and fluff, just a nice place to catch some rest and continue on your visit the following day. The free breakfast was a little sparse but again it was free. Yes I would stay there again.

Upon our arrival, we checked in, got an old key to our room. The hotel looked run down and the room was worse. Chain didnt work on the door and the knob was the kind used in public restrooms. Room smelled musty and like smoke even though it was nonsmoking. Bed was hard and comforter worn and dirty. a very good value. inexpensive and o.k. everything worked. not plush but good enough for me.

While this motel has a few years on it, it has been kept up very nicely, was very clean, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. I only stayed one night (and arived after lobby hours), so my interractions with staff were minimal. Nevertheless, arrangements were made to provide me a key even though I could not say when I'd get there. If you are looking for a clean, affordable, service-able room, this is it! Looks better on the inside than the outside. Has in-room coffee, microwave and fridge. Continental breakfast was decent and served in a bright area. GREAT LOCATION!

Very clean room, quiet, no hassles. Exactly what we were looking for. Thanks, we will be back again.

Older motel but an excellent value. Room was clean and comfortable. I would stay here again on my next visit to Ann Arbor.

The price was right, it was easy to get to and close to where we wanted to be. The rooms were warm, dry, and comfortable.

The room was clean but there was some problems. The shower turned on but didn't turn off. Had to call for assistance. The on bed felt that it had 2 box springs & made noise when you moved on it. Also the internet was really slow that you had trouble loading programs & at one point went off line.
