The facilities are quite good--from the impressively grand lobby to the amazing bath (both of which are maintained impeccably). By contrast, the room, though clean, was a bit tired and small. I found the service staff to be exceedingly helpful and, when there are linguistic issues (e.g., you don't speak Japanese and they don't speak English), they […] have this system whereby they will hand you an iPad to connect with an interpreter on the spot! Also, the izakaya restaurant on the first floor is great and reasonably priced. There are younger wait staff who are eager to speak to you in English. The location is problematic, though, even with Sapporo's SUPER EXCELLENT public transit system. It is too far from the subway station, and the hotel shuttle from central Sapporo is extremely limited. So, you will be taking a cab at 4,000 Yen or so from/to central Sapporo (or 1,500 Yen or so from the nearby subway station). This hotel would be perfect, if you are interested in the Japanese bath experience. They have huge bath areas for both men and women, and the bath experience is simply fantastic! It is open from 6 AM to Midnight, which is quite convenient. Although most of the hotel staff did not seem to speak English, they ARE exceedingly nice and eager to help using […] the hotel's multilingual video concierge system, whereby you can speak face-to-face with an English-speaking agent from their corporate headquarters in Tokyo (?). You can get anything resolved using this system, which is quite convenient. If you don't enjoy the bath, though, this hotel wouldn't be for you. First, it's in the middle of nowhere, and the public transportation options (including the hotel busses) are EXTREMELY limited. A cab ride from/to the center of Sapporo takes about an hour, which is quite inconvenient even if you don't mind the expenses. Also, this hotel was built in the very beginning of the Japanese "bubble economy" in the late 1980s. So, there are some great features (e.g., the entrance lobby is quite impressive). However, perhaps reflecting the declining economy since then, the rooms haven't been updated lately... It is all impeccably maintained, yes, but it shows its age. If you use public transportation, you expect at least 3,000 yen every day for taxi/bus/subway. Regular bus service to/from Makomanai subway station is not foreign tourist friendly. You may need to use taxi. Highway bus from hotel to New Chitose airport departs every 30 minutes and very convenient. However, regular service from airport to hotel stops […] at 7:20 pm, which is too early. If you have a connection at Narita airport, you won't arrive at New Chitose airport until 9:00 pm. The only way to get to the hotel from airport after 9:00 pm is, JR to Sapporo station and then use subway to Makomanai station and then use taxi, or wait the last bus from airport to hotel which may leave around 10:30 pm. The hotel is located far from the city of Sapporo but the shuttle from the APA in the city to where we were staying was very good (between 6.30 to 11.30pm). We went from Sapporo to Otaru and Furano for a day each and could get back to the hotel for the shuttle back to our hotel. It was also good that there were 3 supermarkets near the hotel so we could […] get our food and drinks and not depend on the hotel restaurant alone. The morning shuttle to the subway(7am to 9am) was also very helpful. The rooms were of a decent size although one of the rooms had some problem with the temperature of the ai-condition. It became a bit stuffy in the middle of the night but after telling the staff at reception it got better for the rest of the stay. On the whole it was a very pleasant 5 day stay. Читати далі

The location is very inconvenient. Sometime I have to take taxi to go back hotel. The hotel is suitabe for the local people who has cars or other transport vehicles to take the vcation in Sapporo. For the backpacking friends, the location of the hotel is quite inconenient. You may have to take a lot of time to reach Sapporo Station and back to the hotel. […] The facilities of spring and sauna is very good, though the spring may not be the natural spring water. There has a serious smell of the bathroom. This is the long-time problem of the hotel. I don't know why the hotel do not have the intention to improve it. The space of the room is quite comfortable. The hotel is fine, overall. The out of the way location is helped by the shuttle bus services they run. However, the shuttle busses only run for a few hours per day, and the schedule they have posted on their web site is wrong. The web site also indicates the existence of a bus stop in Susukino which is currently not in service... so I spent an hour […] waiting for a bus that never came before walking to their Susukino hotel to try and grab the bus there. The other problem I had was that the bathroom smelled very, very moldy. Since the bathroom door was cracked when I got into the room, it made the whole place smell bad. The window was sealed, so I was unable to air it out. When I looked, the bathroom didn't LOOK moldy, but the smell was unmistakable even to my bad nose. In the absence of those two problems, I would have been perfectly happy with the hotel.
