Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Hotels

Gran Canaria’s capital and a firm family holiday hotspot favourite, Las Palmas is blessed with an immaculate year-round climate. Whilst it promises all the sun kissed trappings of a quintessential Spanish beach holiday, the vibrant city boasts more than just R&R. Tuck into some tapas in a traditional bar, meander along the cobbled streets of historical Old Town, check out the many museums and culture spots, and feel the flair of the evening salsa. Each February the city hosts the Carnival of Las Palmas, its most famous and flamboyant celebration.

Things to see

A 3 kilometre stretch of golden sun baked sand, Las Canteras Beach is undoubtedly the best of Las Palmas’ 4 main beaches. Its calm turquoise waters make it suitable for families, whilst the restaurants and bars that line its adjacent promenade make it convenient too. Nearby, the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium is the place to go for some highbrow evening entertainment. Set within a dominant fort-like building, it’s the city’s primary venue for theatre, opera and musical concerts. With its quaint narrow streets and antiquated architecture, Las Palmas’ Old Town is packed with gems – some of which date back 500 years. Known as Vegueta, the district is home to some top notch restaurants, alongside historical marvels such as the Gabinete Literario building and the Cathedral of Santa Ana. The latter is arguably the best example of Canarian architecture, with its ornate design and twin-towers. Inside you’ll discover a decadent Gothic interior, and a museum of sacred artefacts.
