Garmisch-Partenkirchen Hotels

Originally two separate, neighbouring villages, the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen was merged for the 1936 Winter Olympic Games. This heritage can still be found today at the expansive stadium, the legacy of more turbulent times. In addition to its sporting foundations, you'll find a vibrant and colourful town surrounded by an impressive array of ski slopes winding along rolling mountainsides, punctuated by a glistening river that runs through the town in a vision of alpine bliss.

Things to see

The Olympic Stadium is certainly worth a visit, whether you're interested in the sporting or historical aspects, or both. In addition to the stadium itself, the huge winding courses snake down the mountainside through green pines, and make for an impressive sight. There's also a number of old monuments that remain from when the stadium was built. The stadium is located close to a number of ski slopes, so you can easily practice your slalom skills after sight seeing. Regardless of the time of year you choose to visit, taking a hike or leisurely walk around the surrounding countryside, either in the crunch of fresh snow, or the temperate balm of a summer afternoon is a fantastic way to take in the picturesque sights of the alpine environment. The Partnachklamm gorge is also a must. The shimmering turquoise waters flowing through the ice covered rock is truly a spectacle.
