Many people may be surprised to know that Hull's actual name is Kingston Upon Hull. One of Hull's claims to fame is The Deep – quite simply one of the largest and most spectacular aquariums in the world. Be sure to take a walk through the underwater tunnel, and a ride on the glass elevator. Sports fans will enjoy a visit to KC Stadium – home not only to Hull City football club, but also Hull FC, one of the very first rugby league clubs. If the weather's being kind, a turn around Pearson Park makes a lovely antidote to the city streets, with its Victorian landscaping. It's also known for its connection with Hull's famed poet, Philip Larkin, whose house overlooked the fields. Another famed Hull resident was William Wilberforce, the man whose tireless campaigning helped end slavery. His house is now a museum, where you can see his actual journals, records, and even his clothes.

How to get to

One way to get into Hull is by catching a flight to Humberside International Airport, although options here are slightly limited with planes coming in from Aberdeen and Amsterdam, among select European locations. The airport is located only around 20 minutes from the city center by car. Another way in is by rail, with direct trains going to and from Hull Paragon Interchange (look out for the statue of Philip Larkin while you're there).
