Elba Island Hotels

Imagine the best of Tuscany concentrated onto a small, mountainous island in the beautiful Mediterranean Sea, and you have something close to Elba Island. On the mountainsides, chestnut trees sway in the breeze, giving way to the remains of vast Roman Villas – Elba has been a holiday destination for millennia. Below, small, sunlit coves and wide, sandy beaches are bathed by the warm, turquoise sea. Whether you go for active mountaineering, relaxed sunbathing or cultural exploration, Elba Island is perfect.

Things to see

Elba Island’s main attractions are its sandy beaches, which form a ribbon around the island. Cavoli Beach, in the south, is one of the largest and most popular. It has a fun, party atmosphere, with beach bars pumping out music and sun loungers so you can lie back and work on your tan. Biodola Beach is quieter and is ideal for families. It has a long stretch of soft sand and plenty of amenities, such as cafés, restaurants and beach shops. If you really want to escape the crowds, try Fetovaia Beach, which lies at the foot of soaring mountains. The sea here is crystal clear too; great for snorkelling and swimming. For a bit of culture to balance the sunbathing, head to the Roman Villa delle Grotte, the largest of the island’s villas. This ancient stone complex contains stunning mosaics and landscaped gardens which slope down towards the sea.
