Southbank is a small neighborhood and so picking a place to stay close to the local attractions is easy. Just over the Princess Bridge from the CBD sees you at one end of the Promenade, with its distinctive high-rise hotels lined by numerous cafés and smaller theaters a stay here will see you with plenty of entertainment from dawn ‘til dusk. Although massively built-up, the Crown Casino area still has a villagey feel to it and many locals come out in the evening to peruse the shops and sit on the banks of the Yarra. If you want a quieter and cheaper stay, then a hotel further south will see you within walking distance of the central attractions, but away from the late-night neon-flashing bars and clubs.

How to get to Southbank

The easiest way to get into Melbourne is by air; Melbourne Airport welcomes international and domestic flights from around the world daily and Avalon Airport serves as a hub for those traveling around Australia. There is no train linking the city and airport, but a shuttle bus or taxi service takes around 30 minutes and is relatively inexpensive. Once in the city, live like a real Melburnian and rent a bike to get about. There is also an excellent tram services that links central Melbourne and its neighboring districts.
