Papagayo Hotels

Draped in tropical greenery, gilded with white gold sand and blessed with the crystal waters of the Pacific Ocean, Papagayo is every bit the archetypal paradise. Occupying a secluded bay in Guanacaste, it’s a haven for honeymooners and romantic escapees alike, where luxury accommodations and a peaceful pace make for blissful memories. Whether you’re basking on the beach, indulging in endless spa treatments, diving among tropical fish, or trekking the lush forests - the only disturbance here is the local howler monkeys.

Things to see

Existing as if it was torn from the pages of a glossy magazine, Papagayo Beach is where you’ll no doubt spend many a relaxing sun-kissed hour. Complete with swaying palms and aquamarine water, popular pastimes here include kayaking, sailing and snorkelling. For a little local culture be sure to drop into the Hidden Garden Art Gallery, a few minutes’ drive from the resort. With more than 400 works of art on display, exhibits range from abstract pieces to works by local artists inspired by the region’s natural beauty. Occupying an enviable lush portion of Guanacaste’s coast, the Four Seasons Golf Club promises an especially picturesque round. The experience takes you to one of Papagayo’s tallest plateaus with its sparkling sea views, before culminating in yet another breath taking vantage point during the 18th hole. As well as the blockbuster backdrop, the club is home to a driving range and a pro shop.

Where to stay

An immaculate blend of natural forest, picturesque beach and secluded luxury lodgings, Papagayo is the ultimate escape. It isn’t a town though, and therefore doesn’t have any amenities beside those which you’ll find in your hotel. Within a 20 minute drive however you’ll find the attractive beach towns of Playa Hermosa and Playa del Coco. Both are home to a variety of shopping, dining and nightlife opportunities, as well as they’re own pristine beaches – Hermosa Bay Beach and Coco Beach. Fortunately the hotels in Papagayo come well equipped with amenities and activities to keep you occupied, whether you fancy a pilates lesson, a forest trek or a sunset cruise.

How to get to Papagayo

The region is served by Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport, also known as Liberia International. As well as Costa Rican destinations, the hub provides connections to cities throughout North America, including Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Los Angeles and New York. There are also links to Toronto and Montreal in Canada. Once you’ve arrived it’s around a half hour car journey to the resort, which can be done by taxi or an airport pick-up service arranged through your hotel. If you happen to be arriving by yacht you can dock your vessel at Papagayo Marina, which like much of Papagayo, caters well to the well-heeled.
