We spent 4 nights in this lovely B&B in late May/Early June on the outskirts of Galena after 5 night in Chicago. It's a increasingly pleasant 3 hour drive West of Chicago on the Iowa/Wisconsin/Illinois borders, very near the Mississippi.
Galena being a lovely relaxing contrast to the city, but with plenty to occupy your time for a short stay. Good base to explore the surrounding countryside in whatever way you prefer - car, cycling, canoeing, walking etc.. several historic buildings to explore...

Great location, beautiful old building with history, rooms with character and lots of space. Gowns provided for spa use. Pool towels provided. Great pool, water was nice and cool and not heavily chlorinated. Hot tub was hot! Bar had a bit of a vibe in it (there were people there!). Friendly bar staff (Chris and Reilly). Lots of free parking out front and behind. Generally a fab place to stay.

I had a most enjoyable stay albeit one night I wish I had stayed longer.
As I was on a budget I had stayed in motels across the Midwest, each one blurring into another. This historic building stood out and I will remember my stay for a long time. The owner/ manager was helpful and entertaining , he also had a good sense of humour, he regaled the guests with a history lesson over an excellent breakfast.
The room was clean and full of character.
The house itself was ideally situated within...

Decent place to stay. Yes it's by a main highway but we didn't experience any noise from it.
The place was clean, easy to get to and from, the free breakfast was sufficient, and parking was plentiful.

We really didn't expect to be told about the theory behind the hotel we thought it was a normal short stay hotel, but it was ok,we got there at 5 30 just as the staff were leaving and locking main door, any later we wouldn't have had anywhere to stay.Anyway got key, staff left strange not having anyone to call on.

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Dubuque
Book for the cheapest times: The most budget-friendly months to visit Dubuque are January, March, and November, when hotel prices may drop to lower levels. For a truly immersive experience of Dubuque’s key landmarks, cultural sites, and historical attractions, a stay of at least 2 to 3 days is recommended. During your visit, you can explore the scenic riverfront, enjoy the local museums, indulge in shopping, visit the aquarium, and partake in the vibrant dining and entertainment scene. Additionally, keep an eye out for family-friendly activities and festivals that highlight the city's rich heritage, making it a destination that offers great value for money.
Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To explore last-minute deals to Dubuque, you may discover discounted rates by visiting the Dealsopens in new window or Last-Minute Dealsopens in new window sections on Hotels.com. Enabling email alerts or push notifications can keep you informed about flash sales and special promotions, enhancing your chances of snagging free nights. Additionally, the Smart Shoppingopens in new window tool available via the app allows you to compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you can make informed decisions. With these resources, you could be among the first to know about price drops or room availability for your spontaneous getaway.
Be flexible with dates: Prices may fluctuate due to factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year. Therefore, being flexible with your travel dates could help you potentially save on your stay at a hotel in Dubuque. For those in search of distinctive accommodations, boutique hotels often provide a more personalised experience and, at times, better value. When you book through Hotels.com, we will inform you whether the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price is on the higher end, we will recommend more affordable dates, which may help you secure a better deal.
Consider your location: Hotels located near the city centre usually tend to be more expensive, but with Dubuque's excellent public transport connections, you may discover a more affordable independent hotel situated further afield that remains well-connected. For those wishing to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often remarkable value for money to be found. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
