Tunnel Mountain District
Tunnel Mountain District serves up the ultimate Canadian Rockies experience without city centre Banff's crowds. Hikers can conquer the scenic summit trail for jaw-dropping 360-degree mountain views or explore the unique rock formations along Hoodoos Trail. Surprise Corner offers frame-worthy snapshots of Bow Valley's dramatic landscapes that'll make your social media followers green with envy. Luxury mountain lodges with rustic-elegant vibes dominate the accommodation scene, featuring cosy fireplaces and panoramic vistas. Resort restaurants showcase Alberta beef and Rocky Mountain specialities for memorable dinners. While walking between properties can be challenging due to steep terrain, hotel shuttles and seasonal bus service connect you to city centre attractions.

Sulphur Mountain District
Sulphur Mountain District delivers Rocky Mountain magic without the extra effort. The iconic Banff Gondola whisks you 2,281 metres up for jaw-dropping panoramic views that'll fill your camera roll. Soak your tired muscles in the historic Upper Hot Springs, where mineral-rich waters bubble at a perfect 40°C. Wildlife viewing, interpretive trails, and the accessible Sulphur Mountain Boardwalk round out your alpine adventure. Mountain-view restaurants serve up Canadian cuisine while you gaze at those postcard-worthy vistas. Hotels range from luxury lodges to boutique mountain retreats, all within easy reach of Banff's natural wonders. Most visitors arrive by car or tour shuttle, as the terrain is steep but rewarding for those who make the trip.

Downtown District
Banff's City centre District showcases the Canadian Rockies' rugged beauty with every step. Bow River's crystal waters flow beside the Legacy Trail, while art lovers can explore Whyte Museum and Canada House Gallery. Outdoor shops and the historic Banff Park Museum keep mountain adventurers busy between hikes, and Central Park offers a perfect spot to soak up those jaw-dropping mountain views. When hunger strikes, the city centre area delivers everything from hearty pubs to fancy mountain cuisine featuring local game and trout. Most accommodation blend rustic charm with modern comforts, though they'll cost you more during peak seasons. The best part? You can ditch the car – downtown's wide pavements make exploring on foot a total breeze.

Uptown District
Uptown Banff buzzes with mountain town charm as visitors browse rustic log-facade shops and dine at patios with stunning Cascade Mountain views. Street musicians provide the perfect soundtrack while you sample local elk or bison dishes at cosy pubs. Victoria Glacier and Tunnel Mountain trails are just a short walk away when you need a nature fix. Most hotels feature mountain views and fireplaces, making them perfect basecamps for your adventures. The pedestrian-friendly streets eliminate traffic hassles, though parking fills quickly during peak seasons. Grab a drink at one of the many bars that stay open until 2am for a taste of Banff's surprisingly lively nightlife.

Banff Centre District
Artistic adventures await in Banff Centre District, where mountain wilderness meets creative expression. The Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity anchors this elevated area with performances, exhibitions, and outdoor sculptures framed by spectacular Rocky Mountain vistas. Hiking trails begin right at doorsteps, offering immediate access to pristine alpine landscapes and panoramic views of Bow Valley. Upscale mountain cuisine dominates the limited dining scene, with most visitors venturing to city centre Banff for more options. Luxury lodges and boutique hotels blend contemporary design with natural materials, while the peaceful setting provides a welcome contrast to downtown's bustle. The steep terrain rewards explorers with breathtaking scenery at every turn.

Banff Rocky Mountain Resort
"Old laundry machine, overall good though."
Banff Caribou Lodge and Spa
"We got one of the two level suites with jacuzzi tub and 2 bathrooms. The room was very nice, but wasn't as practical as it could have been. One negative about the room that we discovered once we stepped inside, is that it doesn't have air conditionning. Luckily the weather was just right outside so we were still comfortable. Another slight irritant was the reception clerk that tried to sell us a tour we had already booked with Parks Canada, saying that what we would get was sub-par and what the hotel offered was much better. We had paid 35$ with Parks canada and what the hotel clerk proposed was around 125$/person. Although we had irritants, our stay was fine and we did appreciate the complementary parking and bus passes."
Banff Park Lodge
"We had such a wonderful experience at Banff Park Lodge. The location is perfect, just a short walk from Banff Avenue’s shops, restaurants, and the Bow River, yet it still feels peaceful. Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, with a great bed and a nice balcony. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay, and everything felt easy and welcoming. It’s a great home base for exploring Banff National Park. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it!"

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Banff
- Book for the cheapest times: The most affordable time to visit Banff is in January, April, and November, when hotel prices tend to be lower. For an enriching experience, a stay of at least 2 to 3 days is recommended to fully appreciate the area's key landmarks and cultural attractions. During your visit, you can enjoy activities like hiking, skiing, and exploring the stunning scenery of the mountains and lakes. Additionally, take advantage of budget-friendly options for dining and shopping, as well as scenic river tours that offer great value for money. Planning your trip during these months not only provides an opportunity to discover the beauty of Banff but also allows you to do so while on a budget.
- Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To discover last-minute deals to Banff, visit the DealsOpens in a new window or Last-Minute DealsOpens in a new window sections on Hotels.com, where you may find discounted rates on hotels as your travel date approaches. Enabling email alerts or push notifications can keep you informed about flash sales and exclusive promotions, helping you seize opportunities for savings. Additionally, the Smart ShoppingOpens in a new window tool available via the app allows you to compare hotel prices and amenities, so you're more likely to see the best options. With notifications for price drops or room availability, you'll be well-prepared for a spontaneous getaway.
- Be flexible with dates: Prices can fluctuate depending on various factors, including the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year. Therefore, being flexible with your travel dates may help you find a more economical option for your stay in a Banff hotel. For those seeking a distinct experience, boutique hotels often provide a more personalised touch and can occasionally offer better value. When you book with Hotels.com, we’ll inform you if the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price appears to be on the higher side, we may suggest alternative dates that could lead to more affordable options.
- Consider your location: Hotels located near the city centre usually tend to be more expensive, but thanks to Banff's excellent public transport links, you may discover a more affordable independent hotel a bit further out that is still well connected. For those wishing to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often great value for money to be found. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
