Paphos Hotels

A classical, romantic beauty, it is only fitting that Paphos is the fabled birthplace of the Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite. Ancient palaces and theatres overlook the glittering Mediterranean Sea and history infuses everything. Sleek yachts dock in the harbour beneath the hulking, Byzantine castle; stunning golf courses are nestled between Grecian temples. Then there are the beaches of Paphos – with year-round sunshine and balmy temperatures, they are always inviting. For a cultural beach break, Paphos is the perfect destination.

Things to see

Paphos Harbour is probably the city’s most-photographed location, and with good reason. Concentrated into this picturesque area on the water’s edge is an astonishing wealth of ancient relics. The fortress-like, medieval castle dominates the harbour, originally a defensive structure and nowadays the backdrop of many festivals, concerts and events. Just beyond the castle lies the Paphos Archaeological Park; a maze of spectacularly-preserved temples, houses and tombs. The house of Theseus contains some of the earliest mythological mosaics, while the Ancient Odeon is still the setting for many theatre performances in the summer. When you’ve had your fill of myth, legend and antiquity, it’s time to relax. Head to Coral Bay Beach, where you can lounge beneath the shade of a parasol, or take to the water for a snorkelling or diving trip. If golf is more your sport, then visit the Aphrodite Hills club, which has a beautiful, championship-standard course.

How to get to Paphos

The Paphos International Airport is Cyprus’ second airport, with regular flights from multiple UK airports. It is located just 10 miles south of the city centre; about a 15 minute journey. There is a regular airport bus service to central Paphos. Many of the hotels and numerous private companies offer hotel shuttle services which you can book in advance; taxis are also a reasonable option. Sometimes, it may be cheaper or more convenient to fly to Larnaca, the island’s main airport. It is located about 90 minutes away. Buses run from Larnaca airport to Paphos via the town of Limassol.
