Ostseebad Binz Hotels

Ostseebad Binz is the biggest and arguably most beautiful resort on Rügen, an island which has attracted its share of famous admirers in the past. The likes of Einstein to Brahms adored its Baltic seascapes, while the German Romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich made the island's white chalk cliffs famous. Today, Binz still draws crowds, although it still manages to retain a hidden gem feel compared to other seaside resorts. With genteel architecture and sweeping panoramas, it's as classy as beach breaks come.

Things to see

In Binz you'll feast your eyes on ornate, impeccably preserved resort villas as you stroll down the promenade. The sandy beach itself is the major draw, and will surprise anyone who doesn't associate Germany with seaside holidays. The epic-sized pier is also a fine place to wander on a sun-dappled day. Further inland you'll find the Granitz, a forested ridge that will cool you off on a hot day. Standing proudly within is the Granitz Hunting Lodge, a white castle which houses art and ornaments from Germany's past. A rather unexpected, but completely fascinating landmark is Prora – a giant resort complex which was dreamt up by the Third Reich. Never completed, it's now a bizarre seafront landmark that most visitors will want to see. If you fancy walking some more, head over to Schmachter See, a wide and glittering lake near Binz which has a charming promenade along one side. It complements the wider waters of the sea very well.

Hotels in Ostseebad Binz

Five star luxury is there for the taking in Ostseebad Bad. Imagine large, opulent rooms with balconies that overlook the lapping waves of the Baltic and the powdery sands below. That's not to say you have to blow your budget on hotels in Ostseebad Binz. There's more modestly priced accommodation to tempt you as well, and most of them feature desirable amenities such as WiFi access and flat-screen televisions. On top of this, you can also find hotels with on-site health clubs and relaxing spas that will certainly leave you feel nice and refreshed after a day of sightseeing.

Where to stay

It'll come as little surprise to learn that the vast majority of hotels in Ostseebad Binz are located on the beach. The Rügen coast is the biggest draw, and has been for well over a century, and one of these hotels will mean you can get from your bed to your sunbed in just a few minutes. That's not to say you're limited to Binz itself, though. If you fancy staying further along the coast, hotels are also dotted around other resort areas such as Sassnitz.

How to get to Ostseebad Binz

It may be on an island, but getting to Ostseebad Binz is easy and rather enjoyable, thanks to the Strelasund Crossing – a name that refers to the 2 crossings that bridge Rügen with the mainland. It means you can drive to the resort from elsewhere in the country. Flights from select destinations arrive at Luebeck Airport, although most overseas visitors will likely arrive at Hamburg Airport instead. Once on the island, one of the best ways to get around is on the "Rushing Roland" – a wonderfully old-fashioned steam train that connects various resorts and is an attraction in itself.
