Santanyí Introduction

Where to stay

Several hotels are located on the rocky cliffs dotted with pine trees above Cala Santanyí. Staying here in the cove is perfect for quick access to the beach for sunning and swimming. This is a popular cove for small boats, too. You’ll find bars and cafes near the beach for a break from the heat, and a convenient car park near the waterfront. Travellers staying in Santanyí’s town centre will be close to the local city hall and main plaza, where you can stroll under the “naranjos”: the abundant and fragrant orange trees that are so popular on Mallorca.

Things to see

The main attraction in this part of Mallorca is, of course, the beach. For sunbathing, swimming and boating, this is the ideal place to experience Mallorca’s blissful weather and stunning views. An entire day can be spent just napping on the sand, dipping in the ocean and enjoying a cold drink at one of the cafes that line the Cala Santanyí cove. Santanyí is a creative town. International artists have been coming to this part of the island for many years, so artsy boutiques and small galleries can be found throughout town centre. Also in town is the Saturday market, one of the island’s many weekly markets that showcase Mallorca’s agricultural roots. For a day trip further afield, take a tour by boat to the Cabrera Archipelago National Park. Its preserved landscape and abundance of animal species have made the Spanish government declare it a “Special Protection Area”.

How to get to Santanyí

Bus number 501 goes directly from Palma’s Estació Intermodal along Ma-19 to the centre of Santanyí town. The island’s bus system, Transport of the Balearic Islands (T.I.B.), is an easy and relaxing way to get to Santanyí from other small towns along the coastline and inland. If you’re renting a car at the Palma de Mallorca Airport, you’ll drive about 45 minutes along Ma-19 to arrive in town. There are also roads that connect the inland Ma-15 route with the coast, should you be travelling to Santanyí from another village.
