The northern half is a cheerful community town with a good variety of shops, restaurants and traditional tearooms housed within its attractive stone buildings. To the south, Matlock Bath has been a holiday and leisure destination since the Victorian era, and still hosts plenty of visitors each year, who come to enjoy the local attractions, including the Heights of Abraham and Gulliver’s Kingdom.

Things to see

Matlock’s city centre charms from the outset, with its pale Derbyshire stone buildings winding up and down the hilly streets. Contained amongst them are traditional little tearooms and cafés, serving the best home-baked Derbyshire treats to sustain your shopping ventures in the fashion, craft and antiques shops. Within walking distance of Matlock Bath, you’ll find the cable car stop for the Heights of Abraham, a unique Matlock attraction. You can soar above the undulating dales, then delve deep underground on a tour of the Masson and Rutland Caverns, which are ethereally lit. For more family fun, visit nearby Gulliver’s Kingdom which has rollercoaster rides to suit adrenaline junkies and pleasure gardens for more gentle pursuits.
