Llangollen Hotels

Nestled in the verdant Dee Valley, a corner of northeast Wales renowned for its picturesque rolling hills and sinuous river, Llangollen is a quaint, historic town. It breathes life into old traditions, transport and architecture largely forgotten by the rest of the world. You could find yourself chugging along on a steam train or perusing local produce at a traditional Victorian delicatessen. Out in the surrounding idyllic countryside, there are dozens of walking trails, and atmospheric medieval ruins to explore.

Things to see

Llangollen’s town centre is a charming place to wander in, with traditional tearooms and independent shops dating back to the Victorian times. This is a place where locals chat to shopkeepers like old friends. The Llangollen Canal Trail cuts a path right through the centre and is a popular place to walk. You can follow the trail on foot to the Horseshoe Falls, or, even better, take a boat ride, pulled by shire horses, along the canal and onto a towering aqueduct. It is a surreal experience indeed to float far above the hilltops on a narrow stream of water. Another vintage excursion can be enjoyed on the family-friendly Heritage Railway. Refurbished old steam trains puff along the Dee River, allowing you to meander leisurely through this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A short drive away, you’ll find the astonishing remains of Valle Crucis Abbey, a 14th century Cistercian monastery.
