Best Skiathos Hotels
Skiathos HotelsYour first view of this Aegean island’s sparkling sea may be rather hair-raising: if you arrive by plane, the tiny airstrip seems to appear right out of the blue, creating quite a dramatic entrance. However, once safely on the ground, Skiathos will enrapture you. The old town streets invite you to get lost in them; the hilltop monasteries enchant with spectacular views. Then there are the beaches, all 65 of them, so you have some serious sunbathing ahead of you. Things to seeSkiathos Town is the island’s only urban area, and it is quite a treat. Like a grand amphitheatre of ancient Greece, the whitewashed houses of the city centre form tumbling tiers around the curved harbour. There’s little rhyme or reason to the streets inside, so just wander until the aromas drifting from a tavern tempt you in. Skiathos Port is a lively spot, with the comings and goings of boats and a thriving café culture. When it’s time to hit the beach, you really are spoilt for choice. Koukounaries Beach, in the south, is one of the most popular. Its long stretch of golden sand is ensconced between a flourishing pine forest and the turquoise Aegean Sea. There are several more beaches along this coast. For a bit of adventure, hike up to the Moni Evaggelistrias monastery. The views are spectacular, and you can sample wine made by the monks.Hotels in
