    The day's meals are written on the chalkboard menu outside – standouts include homemade chicken liver terrine with trompettes de la mori (black trumpet mushrooms), salade strasbougeoise (potato salad with sausage), fleishkiechle (meat fritters) and kassler (smoked pork) in a pastry crust. Leave some room for dessert, as La Petite Mairie is famous for its kougelhopf (yeast-based cake) and tarte à la rhubarbe (rhubarb meringue tart) for dessert.

    Binchstub Restaurant is a Strasbourg staple for flammekueche or tarte flambée (flame-baked tart with a creamy white sauce, onions and bacon). Here, the homemade crust is garnished with fresh ingredients sourced from farms in Alsace.     Options at Binchstub Restaurant include onions and lardons (bacon cubes), comté de noix (hard raw cow milk cheese with walnuts), chèvre (soft goat milk cheese), échine de porc (pork shoulder) and roquette (rocket lettuce). Tarte flambée also comes in sweet flavours, such as banana and Toblerone garnishing. It's best to be there early as the restaurant fills up quickly and doesn't take reservations.
