    Ziggy's Beach Club & Restaurant

Start the party early at this beach club that’s up with the sun

Ziggy’s Beach Club & Restaurant is open from the early morning and throughout the day, serving everything from breakfast dishes to salads and seafood (along with tequila and mezcal-based cocktails). It’s nice to know you don’t have to wait until 5 pm to get going when you’re on holiday.

It’s free to enter Ziggy’s Beach Club & Restaurant, although there is a minimum spend if you want to enjoy the comfy loungers beneath the palm trees or the entertainment in the billiards area. This popular Tulum beach club has direct access to Tulum Beach, with tables set up on the sand or inside the air-conditioned dining room.

Om Tulum Hotel Cabanas and Beach Club

Enjoy a little peace and quiet at this small beach club

The beach club at Om Tulum Hotel is small, but snag a lounger, harem bed or private cabana and you’ll see why it’s so popular. The private cabanas come with their own patio and en-suite bathroom, making them a popular pick.

The limited number of available spots means it never feels crowded and there’s less of a wait for your drinks, provided courtesy of the lounger-side beach service. The vibe is overall low-key and casual, too, rather than luxurious and high-end, which some travellers prefer.

    Mia Restaurant & Beach Club

Pull up a chair on the white sandy beach and take in the sights

At Mia Restaurant & Beach Club, you can expect plenty of seating options in the white sand and beneath the many palm trees, but a pretty admirable fine-dining menu. There are also plenty of Instagram-worthy photo ops.

Boasting the largest wine cellar in Tulum, it’s a great choice if you prefer sipping a merlot over a margarita while you watch the waves come in. The beach club’s fees are based on food and drink consumption, rather than charging an entry or chair fee.

Location: Carr. Tulum-Boca Paila Km 7.5, Tulum Beach, Zona Hotelera, 77780 Tulum, Q.R., Mexico

Pull up a swing – yes, the seats are swings – and sit a while at CoCo Tulum's beach bar. You can drift on the breeze as you take in the waves just steps away, a conveniently-placed bar allowing you to keep your drink within reach without obstructing the view.

Grab some fresh seafood or a steak from the beach grill menu, or a signature cocktail from the beach bar. Options include tasty temptations such as the Mr Coco, made with Mexican whiskey, pineapple juice, acquafaba, coconut milk, lime juice and corn syrup.

    Taboo Tulum

Surround yourself with a feast for the eyes

Head to Taboo Tulum beach club if you’re growing a little tired of the mostly Mexican cuisine that you’ll find at beach bars along the Tulum coast. The beach bar offers up Mediterranean cuisine that's a fresh and fun surprise. Every dish is presented with care, from the seafood served on salt-encrusted wood planks to the desserts covered in sugar sculptures and edible flowers.

    La Zebra

Dine in high style at this food-focused beach bar

The beautiful beach restaurant and bar at La Zebra is a sure hit with travelling foodies. The large, open-air restaurant offers lots of big tables suitable for groups of friends, while the beach seating is made up of plush couches and loungers piled high with colourful pillows and shaded by trees and canopies.

Inventive cocktails (like the Flora de Sandia, with its tequila, watermelon, elderflower, peppers and lime) pair well with equally inventive cuisine. The menu is filled with refreshing seafood dishes and Mexican-inspired meals that take advantage of the latest culinary trends.

    RosaNegra

    Embark on a culinary adventure

RosaNegra beach bar and restaurant may not open until later in the afternoon, but it’s well worth the wait. The stylish restaurant is filled with candlelight, live music and artistic flair, but the ambience pales in comparison to the menu.

While you’ll find your expected tacos on this menu, you’ll find far more interesting offerings as well, such as a deconstructed chiles en nogada, roasted marrow and fish flaked with 24 karat gold. The drinks menu, rather than focusing on tequila and mezcal, surprises with its ample gin selection.
