Fine facilities but disappointing staff experience
The room and common areas were okay but slightly untidy (throw pillows all over the bar) and dusty. My biggest issue was more with the staff. The night before we departed, we were advised to book a taxi with the front desk since we were leaving early and it would be hard to flag one during rush hour. We booked a taxi at the front desk and when we went to check-out the receptionist said it should be arrive soon. 10 minutes of standing outside in the freezing cold morning, no one shows up. I spoke with another employee who said he'd check on it...another 10 minutes go by and he says that the taxi was never booked and offered a half-hearted apology and said another one would be on it's way in a few minutes. Another 20 minutes go by and still nothing! I asked if I could just flag one of the few empty ones going down the street and the employee said it would be unfair to the taxi company because they were on their way. We had a train to catch!!! No one stood outside with us or offered any sort of advice, apology, or tried to help us flag down a taxi. I ended up just calling an Uber which I should have done in the first place.

Disappointing
Other people’s reviews gave me high expectations. Unfortunately for my stay this hotel didn’t meet those expectations. The room was described as deluxe. I don’t believe this was a good description. There was nothing special about the room and it was very small. The standard of cleanliness wasn’t great either. When I checked in I purchased a £12 voucher for breakfast. I was WARNED that under NO circumstances would I be able to get a refund. I assumed the only reason I had been told this was in case I decided the next day I wasn’t hungry after all and wished to get my money back. This was not going to happen because I enjoy a good breakfast when I am on holiday and for me it is all part of the experience. I have never before been given this stern warning at other places where I have stayed. The breakfast was luke warm at best. There wasn’t a vast array of options to choose from either. When I was asked how my breakfast was. I explained it wasn’t what I’d hoped for/was tepud, I didn’t go much on the manager’s response. His attitude was along the lines of it is what it is. He said they would ‘try’ to get the food hot tomorrow. No good to me for my one night stay. He didn’t say ‘we will definitely get this right next time,’ which I think he should. The price of my stay although comparable with some competitors, to my mind wasn’t good value for money, as I don’t believe I had what I paid for. I wont be returning to the Kingsley. This hotel is in an excellent location though.

I would say this property is OK. It’s not great and it does the job of providing you with a bed and a roof over your head. Having said that this property could use a good facelift. The doors between the rooms are frustrating and the carpeting is quite thick in the hallways which makes bring your luggage very difficult and onerous. Well the room is well appointed and OK, there is nothing outstanding with respect to customer service and in fact they could use a refresher as to how to properly greet customers and acknowledge them when they arrive. I waited for nearly 15 minutes before someone got off the phone and acknowledge me. There is another hotel nearby that I would qualify as being much more attentive and customer service oriented. It is close to Holborn station and if you come from Heathrow it is a 60 minute ride on the subway. From Holborne it is a six minute walk to this hotel. That makes it convenient. There isn’t anything particularly memorable about this hotel and frankly, the customer service at the front desk and the fact that there is no one to help you with your bags as you make your way up the stairs, shows that the hotel could do well by investing in there isn’t anything particularly memorable about this hotel and frankly, the customer service at the front desk and the fact that there is no one to help you with your bags as you make your way up the stairs. Substandard, wouldn't recommend
The location of the hotel and the shower head were both great. Other than that, though, I wouldn't recommend this hotel. Our room was up and down stairs and up and down again, so if you're carrying luggage, you need help and also help navigating to your room. The room must have been situated too far away from the router to get wifi as there was no signal at all. For us, this is a must have since we don't want to use roaming data while traveling out of country. We had some difficulty with the lights, and the front desk wasn't helpful other than asking if we had inserted our card (of course, we had). We later found a switch beside one of the beds that had to be switched on for two of the lights to work (the others worked without it, so that seemed quite random). The room was tiny, which is expected in London, but they had crammed so much furniture into it that it was difficult to get around the bed, especially if you had to get up in the dark in the middle of the night. As problems popped up in the room and when we needed to have our luggage carried out, nobody was answering the phones at the front desk so we had to navigate our way there to speak to someone personally a couple of times. After staying at other, similarly priced hotels even more central in London, this was definitely substandard. The manager (Sylvia, I believe) was very nice and offered us a complimentary breakfast, but it was really too little too late.

This hotel does not meet US hotel standards. There are many examples, however, for the sake of this review I will provide one example: There are no water bottles in the room. When you go to the front desk to get water, they tell you the water is filtered and should get water from your bathroom sink! Not!! So every night I would go downstairs to get water from the restaurant. One night a man by the name of "Steven" said he would personally bring up water to our room. I waited one hour and he never brought up the water. I then went downstairs to ask for water again. Steven was no where to be found so I went into the restaurant bar area looking for water bottles or faucet water. Steven shows up and tells me I am "sneeking" around his restaurant and becomes agitated, rude and nasty. This was witnessed by other hotel management and no one seemed to care about they way he was acting or talking. Stay away from this hotel that doesn't understand the primary basics of how to take care of their paying patrons.
