Very good 8.0
Excellent location, perhaps even better than Marriott as it is close to the #16 bus stop (castle bus) and the famous tram #2 stops right in front of the hotel. Dock #8 (public ferry) and metro stations are a few minutes away as are most attractions, shops, restaurants. The staff including housekeepers are pleasant and efficient. Our coffee maker did not work and there is a button on the phone that you press for any help you need. Within 3 minutes, two housekeepers came knocking and they provided us with an electric kettle to make tea. I'm sure they would have replaced the coffee machine if I insisted but I decided to do without coffee and just have tea. The only odd thing I noticed was the bath - it is way too high, twice the height of standard U.S. baths. I had to be careful stepping out of the bath lest I slip and break a hip. I wonder how elderly people would manage especially if they are short and not too agile.

*** BED BUG INCIDENT*** Hello - I visited the Intercontinental Hotel Budapest from Oct 26 to Oct 30th and stayed in room 925. My stay at the Intercontinental almost went off without a hitch until I got home covered in welts. I thought they were mosquito bites at first, but I have more than 10 bites all over my body. A doctor confirmed they were bed bug bites and I did remember seeing a bug in the bathroom during my stay. My husband killed it and we moved on. After seeing a picture, it turns out it was a bed bug. This is why I am rating this hotel poorly. However, I have to say the food was great, the staff at the front desk were pleasant and the room was fine. I did contact the hotel and they replied within 48 hours to say that they inspected the room and didn't find any bed surprise there. I would not expect that they would own up to that kind of problem. If you don't spot a bed bug, does not mean that they don't exist. The bites on my arms, legs, neck, and hands is enough proof for me. Do all their rooms have bed bugs? Most likley not. However, just be very careful if you stay there. I thought it important to share this. If you see a bug, take a picture and send it asap. They seem to believe that because I wrote to them on Friday (return on Tuesday) the bed bugs are not coming from their establishment. But, welts can take up to 14 days to appear. So,I contacted them as soon as I found out about the problem. Other than that, Budapest is beautiful.

Spectacular location and the hotel was very nice, not as I had read (old and tired). The main floor, bar, dining room were all good and the view of the Danube, Chain Bridge was amazing. We were three (myself, husband and 24 year old daughter). We just came from a boutique hotel in Prague (loved) so I compare...we were really quite pleased but there was almost no room to unpack and the room was very basic. We operated out of our luggage for 4 days. The bathroom was also tight. Little to no drawer space. We can usually make do and it was clean; we just never spread out in a relaxed way. My other issue was the breakfast, club option. We opted no for both. It would have been 40Euro per person per day, or 120 x 3. All or nothing. We ate ala carte for breakfast which ended up being half and had some drinks in the bar. There was so much to do touring we were hardly there. My biggest negative though was the breakfast and staff who run it. Almost like an entire separate entity of the hotel. I think there is room for improvement here. We were not on a cruise or part of a group. Yet That’s how it felt...greeted as if we were trying to get away with something, checking off names and the kitchen, service and consistency all varied each day. Again, doable, but the same dish ordered 3 days in a row came completely different. Also we ended up with our friend’s items (who had the full breakfast option) on our bill. Breakfast always felt crazy. For 4/5 star hotel I expect warmer environment.

Exceptional 10.0
The best place to stay in Budapest!
Everyone who works here was lovely. We really appreciated the staff. I stayed in room 926 - which had an excellent view and really would like to compliment my maid staff. As an executive suite guest, we were greeted with complimentary wine and fruit in our room - as well as nice note from the Hotel Manager. It was an excellent touch. Our suite was spacious with excellent views in both rooms. Hotel restaurant, bar, concierge, check in staff were all amazing! When we come again to Budapest - we will definitely stay here.

Beautiful Days by the Danube
We were on the 5th floor, overlooking the Danube River and the Szechenyi Chain Bridge. And from our room we could very clearly view the historic Buda Castle, on the hill on the opposite side of the Danube. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect view. Walking around the old Buda Castle grounds was very interesting, including, and contained within, the Budapest History Museum and National Art Gallery. We also spent a lot of time walking around the old town, including a number of nice walks to St. Stevens Basilica, an incredibly beautiful church. Our room was perfect, as was the service, the breakfast buffet and all the surroundings. And the weather was beautiful too. Excellent vacation!
