Forget Barcelona! Just come for Hotel Granvia!
A beautiful place in a great location in Barcelona! I wish we stayed longer than 24 hours. We arrived early, so we checked in and left our bags with the front desk. When we returned after an afternoon of exploring, the staff was very thoughtful and already delivered our bags to our room for us. The room was incredibly spacious with a very tasteful, elegant, and minimal decor. I've never stayed in a room this large in a hotel. The ceilings were high, and the room overlooked the main street out front. Surprisingly, it wasn't noisy. I loved the look and feel of the hotel in the photos, and seeing it in person was even better. The bed was comfortable, but the down pillows were lacking. The shower was so soothing that I had to take a shower at night and in the morning. The terrace and the lounge (not sure if it was a restaurant) was exceptional. The whole hotel looked like it was furnished and designed by Restoration Hardware or Pottery Barn. We spent some time hanging out on the terrace after a long day of walking around, and it was so relaxing to just lounge on the chaise on the terrace. In the morning, before we left for the airport, we were the first to arrive to the BEST continental breakfast I've EVER had ANYWHERE. The food was exceptional! Fresh baked breads (the BEST), delicious yogurts, fruits, jams, meats, cheeses, juices all beautifully laid out in a rustic modern display. I absolutely LOVED this! I would come back to Barcelona just to stay at this hotel!

Excellent hotel very centrally located and safe
Excellent location just 2 blocks from Plaza Catalunya with all shopping, restaurants and metro-stations. Safe area at night for women as it is very central with a lot of by-passers. Very comfortable bed end bed-linen. Good Wi-Fi and large saftey box. I stayed in a single room, a bit small sized if you are American (as they usually complain about room square meters, I have noticed!), but normal for European standards. The room had everything you needed and it was very clean and freshly renovated. A bit narrow door to enter the shower cabinet, this was the only minor problem with the room. Make sure to ask for a room not facing the street if you are disturbed by traffic, as this hotel is facing a large city street. The courtyard rooms were silent, and there is a very large outdoor common terrace with sunbeds and sofas, which I did not have so much time to enjoy as I was here early March with some rain. Excellent breakfast buffe with a variety of different choices of fresh food. Suitable for adult couples, friends and single-travellers, the ambiance of the hotell was modern with a warm and classy atmosphere, seems newly re-decorated. I have stayed at several hotels in Barcelona during the past 10 years, and this was a very good stay, I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to my friends.

A Palace in the heart of Barcelona
The photos of this hotel look like a palace - and it really is. The old aristocratic home has been preserved and remodeled into a modern delight. They kept all the beautiful old appointments and tastefully added all the modern conveniences you need. The room with its tall windows and pristine white bathroom was comfortable after a long day of touring. The common rooms where we had a sumptuous breakfast buffet and then complimentary afternoon tea have lots of comfortable leather seating; the spacious library with its books and computers made a perfect spot to rejuvenate for the evening; the sun patio was inviting, although I'm disappointed that so many travellers still smoke -when they were out there I couldn't enjoy it. The staff is very service-minded and did all they could to make us comfortable. Although he/she was always quite busy, the reception person helped out with train schedules and advice - we didn't use them to book anything. A plus for us is the history of the Hotel Granvia - the original owner, Lady Dorotea de Chopitea, has been declared Venerable by the Vatican. She did important charitable work in Barcelona lat 1800s. ALSO, this hotel is perfectly located near the Placa de Catalunya, so walking and public transportation (including the airport bus) are extremely easy.

Nice enough hotel but...
Hotel Granvia is a conveniently located decent enough hotel in the magical city of Barcelona but what marred our stay was an odd incident on the second night of our stay. As we entered our room, a pungent odor emanated from the bathroom. As we were about to go to sleep the odor began to permeate the room. Further investigating it was coming from the shower drain. It smelled like excrement. We went down and the conceirge came up and said he could move us to another room. So we packed everything up and moved. Honestly it was a tremendous inconvenience and all the hotel did was comp one breakfast! Considering the (just so-so) buffet breakfast was ridiculously overpriced to begin with (14e) that was pretty upsetting. And I had to ask for the comp (I asked for 2 we got 1) To add insult to injury, the room we were moved to wasn't even an upgrade it was the same size room (but not as nice). The main conceirge (who was very nice otherwise) pretty much waved the smell incident off as something that often happens in Barcelona. Hotel Granvia should learn to respect their guests more. We should have been comped a night. That's the way NY would have handled it. We will return to the enchanting city of Barcelona. But we will stay elsewhere.

Very good 8.0
A very pleasant 6 night stay in late September. The hotel lobby is small, with the dramatic staircase seen in online photos. There is one desk clerk on duty, so no concierge, doorman, etc. Our superior room was quite large with a desk and sofa, closet, and overlooking the terrace. Bathroom was also quite large, with strong shower head. I felt the bath amenities could have been better (I.e. watery thin hair conditioner in dispenser in the shower itself, no skin lotion, and one bar of soap for our 6 night stay.) However, housekeeping was excellent- room was spotless and towels quite ample. One criticism is that the room had no wardrobe or dresser to use to unpack. We had to live out of our suitcases and for a stay of our length we would have enjoyed the ability to unpack. The room itself certainly had space to accommodate something - maybe even just some shelves. We opted for breakfast: daily changing pastry variety, breads, fresh fruit, yogurts, meats, cheeses and green salad items. There was also an unappealing attempt at an English breakfast - I assume to accommodate British and US guests, but not very well-prepared. My husband and I just stuck with the other items which were plentiful and quite good. The location is excellent- 2 blocks from Plaça de Catalunya (we used Aerobus to/from airport) and close to Block of Discord. Some good restaurants nearby, metro right outside. All in all a very nice bouthotel.
