Great staff but hotel desperately needs renovation
The staff at the hotel are first class and couldn't do more to help with my stay. The breakfast I had in the morning was superb and again I have no complaints there either. However, the hotel itself has a number of problems: - It's located on a busy road and even with a room in the middle of the hotel I could hear the road and streets all through the night despite my window mainly being closed - There's also a pedestrian crossing so until late at night and from early in the morning you will hear the beep beep beep every couple of minutes - There is no aircon and the hotel itself had the heating on high all night which made it near impossible to sleep. I was able to open my window fully for cold air but then you have the problems above to deal with as a result - The decor in my room felt as though it had been there for a number of years with things like loose carpet, old furniture and general old decoration - The decor in on the landings was the same as the room, in fact they have clearly made progress downstairs in reception and bar/restaurant but that isn't followed through out the hotel

BAD MANAGER, lovely staff, NO WHEELCHAIRS!!!!!
We booked this hotel as it was close to Great Ormond Street Hospital where we had an appointment early the next morning. On arriving we were informed we couldn't stay due to my son being in a wheelchair. The hotel staff were great and arranged a transfer to a sister hotel, with taxi fares included...so all was fine.....until the next day. The next day we had to go back to the original hotel to pick up a package that we needed for the hospital appointment. On arrival we met the manager. She was the rudest hotel manager we have ever met! She said their hotel was not wheelchair friendly due to the lift size (my son is 12, his chair is not a lot bigger than a buggy) and she snapped at us telling us to search for better hotels in the future because her hotel couldn't take our son. What she said and how the girls acted on the first night was fine, it was her abruptness and horrible tone. Disabled families have enough to deal with without managers like that! We told our son the hotel lift was broken as we do not want him to ever feel unwelcome anywhere, ever! The manager needs to take some lessons from her staff on customer service.

An upsetting experience
We came for 5 nights, had breakfast at the hotel 4 times. On the 4th day, we arrived for a late meal. The restaurant was almost empty, the whole space can be seen at a glance. While I left the table to get coffee I placed my handbag underneath my chair. My husband was seated at the table. After 3 minutes as I got back, my handbag was gone... Nobody had seen anything... The staff called the police for us, but could no do anything else. One of them mentioned 2 women who came from the street to have coffee. Very strange, as this takes some effort to go via the lobby into the restaurant, while there are plenty of places for coffee at the street. This incident left us with deep doubts. The lose of my passport, my purse, money, eyeglasses, documents, is very upsetting. We had thought that the hotel premises were safe, especially because one must pass via the reception into the restaurant and the staff recognizes the hotel guests.

Our entire stay was tainted by one specific incident unfortunately. The shift Manager stepped in and was very good and although not able to rectify the issue, he did waive the cost of our meal and organised complimentary breakfast. However we waited 15 minutes in the restaurant for the waitress to take our order, we asked if it could be turned around quite quickly as we were going to the theatre and she said that was no problem. Another 15 minutes and we hadn't received our drinks even though she was standing behind the bar with no customers. I went to the bar and asked if I could get our drinks and she said she would bring them over to us rather than give them to me at the bar. A gentleman from another table (the only other table occupied) went to the bar for refill of his round and she served him at the bar, ahead of us. When the meals were finally brought to the table we could smell a strong burning smell, which turned out to be the inside of my mums pie - it was like a lump of coal. The waitress said if we wanted another pie (this one was inedible!) we would have to wait a further 15 mins, which we didn't have. As we needed to eat before the theatre, we agreed to take the mash and veg, which was scraped on to a side plate and brought back out with a 'we won't charge you for that'.

Great location, disappointing and expensive rooms.
The location is very convenient and central. Reception area plush and updated, but that is where it stops. The rooms are small, basic and in need of updsting and some maintenance. The room I moved to (after 2 uncomfortable nights sleep on a bed that was 2 beds joined together, leaving a 'ditch' in the middle) was on the second floor. It got quite a lot of noise from the local pubs, had drainage issues with the shower, mould in the shower, a rusty shower curtain rail and an office chair well passed it's use by date. The staff are professional and were very helpful trying to find me a better room. At least they found a room with a proper bed. I found this hotel very over priced. I thought I was treating myself to an upmarket hotel. I won't be staying here again, even though I've been told by management that they are listening to customer comments and looking to make improvements.
