Great Base to Explore Amsterdam
The Kimpton Hotel DeWitt is near everything you'll want to see in Amsterdam--museums, Central Station, Red Light District, cool neighborhoods, boat tours, nightlife, etc. Located on a busy street with easy to use city trams, the hotel offers a wonderful respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. Our inner courtyard room was devoid of any and all street noise and was spotlessly clean. The room offered a king-sized bed (very comfortable with nice linens), mini-bar refrigerator, nice tv, and well appointed bathroom. We did, however, wish that the room came with a closet for hanging items (we were staying for a week). The staff at the DeWitt could not have been more helpful or accommodating. The concierge happily arranged our tickets to the museums and trams and later explained how to get same day tickets for the Anne Frank House (very challenging last minute). The front desk staff was always polite and helpful. Special thanks to the Duty Managers (Sicerea and Evelien) who sent treats to our room, including a bottle of sparkling wine and deserts for my birthday. Their personalized, handwritten notes were special. We also enjoyed the free wine and appetizers each night from 5 - 6 p.m. in the lobby. A great way to wind down the day. Finally, our dining experience in the restaurant was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel DeWitt and thank all the staff--front desk, concierge, servers, housekeeping, etc. for making our days and nights great.

We ♥️ Kimpton de Witt
The hotel staff especially Carlos, is the best. Carlos even went over & beyond when we asked for directions to the Tours office. He walked with us to show the shortcut. When he found out from my husband that we were in town for the 1st time to celebrate our 25th anniversary, he surprised us with Champagne and desserts even though the greeting showed Happy Birthday, we still ♥️d it, it was a very sweet gesture. LOL. WI-fi was weak, but it will not stop us from coming back. It’s a 6-minute walk to Centraal Station, 3-minute walk to the Tram stop/police station, ♥️d the Nespresso coffee, free bottled mineral water, paraben-free toiletries (i totally forgot to stop at the store uggh), free wine & hors d'oeuvre 5-6 daily; last, but not the least- they have rolls of band aids when I needed them most for my blisters hahahhhh, ohhhh most importantly they have a weighing scale for the luggage. We saw the other hotels we looked at on Expedia, and we are so happy we chose Kimpton. Btw, to Kimpton’s billin staff - there are pending charges on my account for items we paid in cash. Please don’t forget to remove those amounts. Thank you.

This hotel is truly lovely. The decor is modern and stimulating, our room was a lovely size and the beds are very cosy and comfortable. I live in the UK so need to bring my dog to continental Europe via the Stena Line, which disembarks in Hook of Holland. The journey from there to an airport is laborious and involves buses and trains, so regardless of where in Europe we are heading, we usually break our journey in Amsterdam at the Kimpton De Witt. The Stena Line is an overnight ferry; we leave England in the evening and arrive in Holland the next morning - then have to take a bus to a train to Amsterdam. After all of that, I was very grateful to find a room ready for us at the Kimpton that morning and I immediately took a nap. I had convinced my friends, who were travelling with us, to stay there as well; they were a little hesitant at first because of the price, but thought it worth it once we got there. We found a key for free cocktails at the bar on our bed and they have a happy hour from 17:00 - 18:00 every evening - it includes wine and this time, because it was cold, hot cider to which Jameson could be added. The hotel is in a great location; just a few blocks from the train station, transportation and shopping. This really is my favourite hotel in Amsterdam and now it is also a favourite of my friends.

Nice hotel but poor service
Overall it is a very nice new hotel but the service part is somewhat deficient. I arrived before my room was ready and went for a walk - the lady in the front desk took my number and promised to call as soon as the room was ready. Unfortunately I received no call at all. When I finally got back to the hotel at around 7 pm, I was given a room that had no cupboard or any other clothes hanging facility. I went back downstairs to say that this is not normal. I was offered no upgrade at all, the only thing they could say is that the hotel is full and they cannot give me any other room! Offered I could take another room for the second night. While making a booking, there was no note anywhere saying that the room is not fully equipped so I felt really sad about this indiffrence from the front desk. They offered to get me a luggage rack in my room with hangers to hang my clothes but this was obviously not tall enough to suit for the dresses. Finally a proper hanger was rolled into my room so I could unpack. But meanwhile, going up and down between my room and the front desk, the key card stopped working and so I could not use the elevator and had to wait for somebody else to come to my floor in order to get in the elevator! The card was activated again twice before it started to function again. Apart from this, the room was ok. Bed is extremely comfortable. There was no ceiling light in the room though, which made it a rather dark place even on daytime!

Bad experience at Kimpton De Witt
We were disappointed with this hotel when it is not cheap hotel and we expected better service and treatment. On night of check in, we found out my request to stay on same level, close to room of another family member and especially near to elevator was not met and we were separated. Our room given was right at the end of the corridor, where there were many turns The receptionist promised change of room and next day given another room which was much better but the thermostat in the room was not working and only realized it late at night when we got back to the hotel. It was freezing cold. Next morning told the receptionist and she sent a technician to fix but after some he said he could not repair it and said if it was not working again to ask for a portable heater when we return to hotel later. We had to leave the hotel for our day trip outside and when we arrived back our room, we found out the thermostat was still not working and it was freezing cold. My husband called the receptionist to ask for a heater but was told there wasn't any. He said that was what the technician and told us that the hotel could bring up one. Finally someone came with a portable radiator and just dumped it there without teaching us how to operate it. We had such bad experience and when we checked out the receptionist on duty asked how my stay was and I told her what happened. It was too late to many any amends. The experience left a bad taste and we definitely will not return!!
