The lobby is grand. Staff are very friendly. The location is convenient! Less than 10 minutes walk to restaurants and shopping. About 15 min walk to a lot of museums and monuments. But if you’re looking for luxe accommodations, this isn’t the hotel for you. (This opinion comes from someone who’s used to staying at high end resorts like Ritz Carlton...to give you a sense of my rating.) Check out my photos. I ordered room service and I received a paper bag with my boxed-up dinner and plastic utensils (may as well have ordered through Doordash and I would’ve paid less in service charges). I’m all for environmentally friendly ways of doing things, but this seemed a bit cheap to me. Wouldn’t actual silverware and a plate with cloth napkins on a tray be more eco-friendly? Oh and don’t get me started on the “complementary” bottled water with membership. A bit tacky, no? For the price paid for this room, I at least expected free bottled water. Good thing I had dollar bills on me so I could go down the hall and buy water for $2 at the vending machine ($3 charge to room if you’re not a member, and I wasn’t about to call the front desk and ask them if I was a member or not). Guess the price you pay for this hotel is for the location. My husband travels a LOT (he’s over a million miles with his selected airline) and said that other Grand Hyatts around the world are usually nice, but he wouldn’t come back to this one.

Worst ever
Since I am given the opportunity to write about my recent stay (Jan. 1-4, 2019) at the Grand Hayatt (room 727) on H street in DC, I am letting you know that I am extremely unsatisfied and I will never again sleep in this chain of hotels. I basically could not sleep, there was music in the Atrium until very late at night, at least until midnight and then people were talking/shouting in the Atrium until 2-3am (I understand that there was a conference but one has to take care of regular guests too!). The room was not sound proof at all, the window to the Atrium was broken and could not be closed completely, the noise from the corridor was unbearable (people were walking in circles on the 7th floor at 3am talking as if there were alone at their private home), etc. In addition, the toilet in that room was flushing constantly, and although someone came to try to fix it, it still did not work properly. It was the most unpleasant stay ever in my life. At more than $300 a night for that room, I find it outrageous. Even for free I would not take such a room. I wrote to the manager about my very bad experience and he didn't even care to reply.

Great Location But...
Checked in a 5PM, but was told one of our two rooms was not ready. We went up to the room that was ready and the phone rang, it was the front desk. She told me that there was a problem with our second room. Apparently they had a reservation date that was weeks away for the second room, although my single Expedia itinerary had two confirmation numbers for the same date. I was also told that there were no more rooms left, not a pleasant start to our stay. After heading down and waiting in line again, I was sent over the manager in a panic. He was able to secure another room after a considerable wait. Also the first room had crushed pretzels all over the floor, gross! My wife went down the hall to flag down the maid, who came by after a couple of attempts. She questioned us, implying we were responsible for the mess even though we just arrived. Not a great experience. Also at check out, I came up to the counter hand over the keys and get a final bill and the women told me her computer had frozen. After several minutes waiting for it to thaw, I wrote my email address on a piece of paper and walked out.

Great location! Everything else, just ok
We arrived early (11) but were happy to hear they had available rooms; however, they charge $25. I have checked into hotels early before due to a similar early flight issues and have never been charged. Since we only wanted to freshen up and head out, we declined. When we checked in we discovered there was only one elevator, and our room was at the opposite end. Because of the horseshoe layout of the building, it meant we had to walk the entire hallway length twice to go up or down. Upon checking into our room, we heard a dog rapidly barking. Called the front desk, who told us pets were not allowed at the hotel, only service animals. They offered to move us, however we were not calling to complain about annoyance; as animal lovers we were concerned about its welfare. Even if it was a service animal it seems it had been left alone in the room. They called back later and offered to move us again but by that point the animal had stopped barking. The hotel location was perfect; close to the national mall and the capital one center. The area seemed safe and clean. When we returned, shortly after midnight, pie group of 3 wanted a water. The vending machine was out of water. And ginger ale. And sprite. And coke. And diet Coke. So were the vending machines on the 3 other floors we checked. We finally went to the front desk where they gave us some but it was annoying. Overall, the staff was phenomenal and the room was fine.

Fancy hotel close to Capital One Arena
I love staying at this hotel. The grand lobby is so bright & inviting & makes you feel at home w/ all the couches & seating around. Front desk & concierge staff are always so friendly & helpful. Waitstaff at Cure restaurant was awesome as well esp since we arrived 15 mins before the kitchen closed for the night. Valet at the front of the hotel are always there to greet & assist you. Stayed in a double room on the 10th floor & for the most part the room was clean & presentable. A couple stray hairs but overall comfortable bed. I recommend adding more pillows as they are kind of small & too soft thus causing flatness. Huge TV although we didn’t even turn it on. Alarm clock/iphone/mp3 dock is truly outdated & definitely needs upgrading. The iPhone dock in is OLD. It’s pre iPhone 6 so if you still have the 5 then it’ll be perfect for you. I’m willing to bet that no one has a 5 these days so it’s pretty useless at this point. I love that there’s sockets to plug/charge your phone right at your bed! Not just 1, but 2!! The AC worked great even though we stayed at the tail end of winter and before spring. Better to be cool than hot and uncomfortable. Bathroom is great. Thankful for curved shower rods and bright lights in the shower because I hate dark showers. I couldn’t believe there was no exhaust fan though. Best part of staying here is the super easy, super convenient location of the Metro since it’s attached to the hotel; don’t even have to leave the bldg!
