Good place to sleep, and that's it.
The hotel is walking distance to many attractions, but we were unhappy with the service. The hotel charges a "destination fee" which includes services that hotels generally provide without a fee. For example, luggage storage, comcast, and two free waters a day were included in the fee. However, we were unable to take advantage of these services due to the lack of customer service. When our room was serviced, the housekeepers did not leave us water and often forgot to replenish our supplies. We had to call guest services multiple times just to request water, coffee, etc. Even after calling, we wouldn't get what we requested or no one would pick up the phone. One of the days, our room wasn't serviced until 8pm, even after we made multiple calls asking for service throughout the day. Their excuse was that we had two separate reservations, but even then, wouldn't the room be serviced after we (supposedly) checked out? or couldn't guest services put two and two together and combine the reservation during check in? We did, however, like that the hotel has a list of supplies that they will provide. We were able to request things like toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, shaving cream, hair irons, etc. for no additional fee. They fulfilled all our requests for these items, so we were very pleased with that. As for amenities, the hotel is lacking as well. It isn't clear where the gym, spa, or anything is in the hotel, and at this point I'm not sure these even existed.

Disappointing experience at the Grand Hyatt
It's the little details that make a hotel experience special. The Grand Hyatt has a beautiful lobby and lovely bedrooms. However, the attitude of the front desk employees during our last stay in DC and the hidden residence fees made us regret our choice this time. No Daily clean up: There was no housekeeping on our second day at the hotel. When we came back at 9 pm, the beds were still undone, the towels were not changed, and the bins were full. We called the concierge a few times before getting new towels for the night. The staff at the counter gave no apologies, and the issue was treated as a minor issue. This is unacceptable for a 4-star hotel. Check-in experience: A mistake was made in our booking, and we were first given a room with one king-size bed for five people. The staff scolded us for making a mistake. We felt very sorry at first and apologized. When I checked my reservation again, I found out that I did book a room with two beds for 2 adults and two children. She looked at my reservation, gave me a sour face, and made the change. The whole experience was quite unpleasant. Hotel keys not working: We had a problem with the hotel keys twice. It took the security 30 minutes to come and help with the change of keys. Also, beware of the additional charges of around 25 USD a day (called residence fees). I don't understand why the hotel does not include the residence fees into the total costs!

Fancy hotel close to Capital One Arena
I love staying at this hotel. The grand lobby is so bright & inviting & makes you feel at home w/ all the couches & seating around. Front desk & concierge staff are always so friendly & helpful. Waitstaff at Cure restaurant was awesome as well esp since we arrived 15 mins before the kitchen closed for the night. Valet at the front of the hotel are always there to greet & assist you. Stayed in a double room on the 10th floor & for the most part the room was clean & presentable. A couple stray hairs but overall comfortable bed. I recommend adding more pillows as they are kind of small & too soft thus causing flatness. Huge TV although we didn’t even turn it on. Alarm clock/iphone/mp3 dock is truly outdated & definitely needs upgrading. The iPhone dock in is OLD. It’s pre iPhone 6 so if you still have the 5 then it’ll be perfect for you. I’m willing to bet that no one has a 5 these days so it’s pretty useless at this point. I love that there’s sockets to plug/charge your phone right at your bed! Not just 1, but 2!! The AC worked great even though we stayed at the tail end of winter and before spring. Better to be cool than hot and uncomfortable. Bathroom is great. Thankful for curved shower rods and bright lights in the shower because I hate dark showers. I couldn’t believe there was no exhaust fan though. Best part of staying here is the super easy, super convenient location of the Metro since it’s attached to the hotel; don’t even have to leave the bldg!

Classic downtown hotel, but...
The Hyatt is a classic downtown hotel. Rooms are nice, quiet, furniture is good quality, towels are plush, etc. There are dozens of good places to eat nearby in the evening. The t.v. was huge, with a good selection of stations, and the wifi signal was strong. But I do have two caveats. First, the web site advertised access to a fitness center that was in the same building. A good fitness facility is a priority for me when I travel. But when I got there, the fitness center was under renovation and they had set up a different facility in the hotel, which was pretty marginal in terms of the quality of equipment. Additionally, there was no changing rooms in the facility, so I had to cross the entire first floor atrium to get to the elevator down to the makeshift facility. In short, it was terrible. Second, when I checked in, outside the room next to mine was a stack of coffee mugs and glasses on the floor. I realize sometimes room service trays are left out...but these were still on the floor in the same place when I checked out three days later. You just don't expect this level of service at a hotel like this.

Very friendly staff, and the breakfast downstairs at the Cabinet was great. The hotel's aesthetics and feel were quite nice. Location was excellent. Walking distance to several museums, restaurants, etc. There are several things that were upsetting about our stay, however. 1) Parking is not clearly / honestly defined for guests. During the reservation process I was informed that the hotel had self parking available and was not told that it was 42$ a day, which is ridiculous. They're valet only (59$/day). The "self-parking" they advertise is available is nothing but a third party parking deck that will charge you 42$ a day to park. 2) They charge a 150$ security deposit to you on check-in, and this was not explained to me at the front desk. I wasted time calling my travel company to figure out what the 150$ extra charge was about. 3) Room doors slamming. Constantly. With a hotel as nice as this one I'd expect some kind of soundproofing on the doors to prevent this from being so loud. 4) A/C unit is not able to cool properly. If set to AUTO, it simply does not run / match the temperature that is set on the thermostat. I found myself having to constantly set the fan to ON to lower the room temperature, otherwise it would default to 75+ even if set to as low as 65 degrees on AUTO -- which is as low as it goes, by the way. The aggravating thing is that it resets to AUTO if you change the temperature on the thermostat again...
