Holiday Inn Riverview
Very Good8.0
Comfortable and convenient
A comfortable stay a little out of Charleston- the shuttle allowed ease of access to the town but often had to do a second trip due to the demand. Well appointed rooms, a little tired but beds particularly comfortable. Staff were excellent. Only two disappointments- because we booked from the uk via no complimenting breakfast and one reason for us choosing this hotel was laundry facilities - the washer was broken for the 3 nights we were staying. Overall a good stay.

Decent hotel, but with extremely rude staff
The hotel is close to the center of town, but you can't walk due to its location between two very busy roads. Our stay was blighted by several problems, the main one of which was when our toilet exploded and flooded our room. The staff seemed completely unconcerned about this, initially refusing to let us change room. Once they did we weren't rushed out of the room, meaning that several items of ours were left behind, which the staff were then extremely unhelpful in helping us relocate. Another problem was the shuttle bus. When it was full the driver said he would return within 20 mins but instead took 45 mins, offering no explanation whatsoever

Just NO
If you usually frequent motel 6 you might be comfortable...the bed was clean and comfortable. The highway noise & noise of other guests made the earplugs they handed out seem a necessity. The tub did not drain well, food in the Restaurant was stale & bar drinks watered down. The location doesn't support any pedestrian movement at all. Huge disappointment- I cant fathom why others gave a positive review

Racist Climate at Holiday inn Riverview
This was a horrible experience with racism and bigotry thanks to Katy and Ashton whom are housekeeping and reception. Katy saw it fit to informing me of who she sleeps with in effort to minimize the racist acts committed by Ashton. Ashton told Katy that I pulled a knife on her and Katy called my room suggesting that the police should be called. A drastic way to get my attention. Either this was sexual harassment or racial harassment. I am contacting their corporate office which is in Charlotte, NC. It seems that Charleston and Charlotte are united in projecting an environment of racial inequality and hiding such acts. Ashton and Katy have obviously confused their job duties with personal desires. This stemmed from my asking Ashton, whom (lingers behind the front desk as if she is qualified to perform customer service duties). I asked her for a Charleston Inside/Out booklet which was still bundled in plastic and sitting on the counter. She sent me on two separate journeys across the lobby and outside the hotel front doors before she was satisfied enough to fulfill my request for the booklet, which was obviously not on display. As she struggled to break open the plastic wrapping, I offered her a pocket knife. Ashton says, "I think I got it." She struggled a bit more and took up even more of my time before finally breaking the wrapping. I thanked her and went to the room to eat and unpack. 10 minutes later Katy called the room suggesting that i had committed a crime.

Going on the Wrong Direction
Years ago this was my go-to hotel for short trips to Charleston. It was comfortable, reasonably priced, and very close to downtown. After a few years away this is no longer the case. The staff isn’t extremely friendly and helpful (like always), but the hotel appears to be in the middle of some kind of renovation overhaul. Construction doesn’t bother me, but I stayed in one of the finished rooms (not as pictured) and discovered it to be awkward. They’ve installed a modernist “aged” wood floor and cabinet design that makes every last crumb and dust ball on the floor visible (around the bed needed to be swept). Later I discovered that the wood makes for great acoustics, which meant there was zero muffling of sound between rooms. I could hear the guest in the next room snoring as if we were sharing the space. Above I could plainly hear someone wearing high heels walking around their room all night. The bathrooms and sinks did not appear to be touched in the renovation, so the room felt half finished. The bed was still clean and comfortable, but I did not stick around for breakfast (checkout was very fast and easy). I could forgive the weird set up except they were charging almost $200/night on the weekends, and weekdays prices were still over $100. That doesn’t seem justified given its current state and the location being across the River in West Ashley. I’ll have to find a new hotel for short trips to town (unless price drops significantly).
