Solid choice, spacious rooms
I've stayed at the Rouge before, and it met expectations. The bar/lounge area is nice, and the rooms are spacious (by DC/major city standards), and comfortable (nice beds). The decor and a few small things around the edges are starting to look a tiny bit worn/dated, but that is being picky, and putting it up against some other, newer Kimptons in the area. For the $20+ daily "resort fee," I wish there was complimentary bottled water in the rooms, given DC's lead pipe issues. I missed the wine HH due to work conflicts during my stay, which makes the resort fee seem steep.

Nice place to stay
Went for a family vacation. Was very happy to have a king size bed, for us, and BUNK BEDS for our son and his friend. This place is interesting with the red and black decor, but it is a little tired looking and could use a bit of a freshen up. I have a middle grade for cleanliness because the first room we were given we checked the bunk bed area and discover tooth floss picks and an old moldy pizza crust under the mattress; a little gross but not the wnd of the world. They have a us a new room and it was great. The cleaning crew did not take away the used dishes we had in the room but cleaned everything else. The free wine and tater tots were a nice treat and the feee car service is cool too. Great staff all around with friendly attitudes. Location is very good not great but with the free car service can be great.

Great location with lots to do within a 10-20 minute walk. Only reason I gave a 3 on condition is that they have two very slow, old elevators and one was not working for the first day and a half of our trip.

You Get What You Pay For At the Kimpton Rouge
If I were to rate this hotel out of five stars I would give it two. It earns one star for being conveniently located (roughly a 15-20 minute walk to the mall, and the zoo in the opposite direction) and one star for the complimentary services like breakfast (muffins, bagels, hot and cold cereal, assorted pastries), wine and appetizers during happy hour, and fruit-infused water throughout the day. The overall freshness of the food and the narrow, inflexible window for breakfast keeps it from earning an extra half star. It loses one star for the overall friendliness of the staff (for example, at check-in I wasn't spoken to beyond being asked to pay for my visit), and it loses two stars for the ridiculous 'guest amenity fee', a $28/night charge that encompasses wi-fi, long distance calls, and shuttles, regardless of whether or not you actually use these services, and regardless of the fact that there is a fee upfront to use them (wi-fi for example was $13/night- the reason why I didn't connect any of my devices. If you were going to visit DC, I would recommend not compromising quality for price. My friends and I wanted a cheap hotel and that's what we got booking here.
