City centre hotel
Ideal location in city centre. Only criticism is that it is not very disabled friendly. Entering and getting to 1st floor reception quite awkward. Handy for Airport bus, just across the road, which made our onward journey easier.

Good 6.0
This is the first time we have stayed at the Mercure and not upgraded to a privilage room. Room we were allocated was dated and in need of refurbishment. However worst feature were the thin walls. We weee wakened at 6.30am by a woman with a very loud voice in the room above talking non stop. This continued for 2 hours. So much for a relaxing overnight! However on the plus side staff were lovely.

Poor 2.0
Hotel needs a major facelift & needs to be cleaned
Bathroom is old and outdated. Cobwebs in the room - and overall not well maintained. I asked for a toothbrush and it took 20 minutes to bring it to me even though I told them I was late for a meeting. Staff on arrival were pleasant however I asked if we could change rooms because I accidentally booked a twin room instead of double. However they said hotel is fully booked without checking for us. Then my fiancé explained that we just got engaged and came to Edinburgh for wedding venue searching and then she checked and gave us another room. We then went down and asked if we could pay for an upgrade - which she said we could. Why wasn’t this given to us as an option right away?

Good sized rooms
Room was good size clean and tidy apart from the sofa which was tired and worn the housekeepers and reception staff friendly breakfast was buffet which was fine apart from the last morning it was chaotic as only 2 staff working and large number of guests I felt that the restaurant was very over priced for a 3 star hotel also one waiter had body odour which I felt unacceptable in a restaurant
