Copthorne Hotel Birmingham
This hotel is not good! Firstly it's so difficult to find with the amount of roadworks and diversions and road closures. We eventually abandoned the car in random car park and walked to the hotel lugging our bags! Check in was quick thankfully after driving around for an hour! We went to the room, the Woodman Suite. Entering the lounge area it smelled foisty and it was like stepping back in time! Decor and carpet was seriously dated probably back to the 80's! The bedroom was similarly hideous horrible dark furniture and the headboard on the bed was an absolute sight to behold! The bedding and towels were immaculately clean however. Phew! The bathroom although large had a cream coloured jacuzzi bath with a shower over it, that had the most vile shower curtain I've seen! The "marble" sink unit and floor tiles also were hideous! The was no air-conditioning so it was boiling hot and windows couldn't be left open as it was noisy from the traffic on the busiest road through Birmingham. There was no lights next to the bed and you had to get out of the bed to turn the lights off. Plug sockets were an issue too and there was a four way adapter provided! There was NO hairdryer! Why?? I have to say however, the bed was comfortable and although the room was ridiculously hot, we didn't sleep badly. Although we'd paid for breakfast we didn't have the queue was too big! I should have booked the Premier Inn and I'd recommend you do too!

OK hotel let down by the bar and food.
The hotel is central to the city and the canals and of course Symphony Hall is a couple of minutes walk so position-wise very good. The hotel itself is aging a little now but still adequate. People were reasonably friendly. Then we get to what was served and the cost. Bar is very expensive and they served a warm prosecco which was also flat (probably from the previous evening). 4 drinks and lucky to get change from £30. Breakfast was cold (self service from heated covered dishes where the hot water or whatever they used to heat them was cold. I had to ask for more hot water to make tea, the food was running out and no-one seemed to be checking or renewing. Generally let the side down as the rest of the stay was not too bad.

Needs money spending on this hotel !!
There is a lot of building work happening nearby which meant the usual entrance to the car park was closed. And due to its location I had to go back round the one way system to finally find a way in. Car parking is now charged at £12 paid through an app this was not mentioned when I booked. Overall the hotel is looking tired and in need of a major refurb. However having said all that the staff were first class.

The hotel was clean and warm, although the fittings were shabby. The water pressure in the bathroom was excellent - best I have encountered in a hotel in a long time! There was a lot of street noise, as I had the windows open; it was a hot evening. All my basic needs were met.
