Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel (Newly Refurbished)
Hotel on arrival was great and decor was lovely and modern. We got to our room and I found a few dark hairs on my pillow which were not me as I’m blonde!! And on lifting the pillow there was what seemed to a bitten nail stuck on the pillow (gross I know!) Room other than that was ok, quite dark with no nice view and no bath but for a 1 night stay wasn’t too bad! Noise travels in this hotel, you can hear everything! People chatting in corridor and I also got woken up at 2am when our neighbours got back from a night out and I could hear their conversations word for word which I don’t feel should be a problem in a modern hotel!! Breakfast cost about £10 each - not worth it, go into Bristol and have something better! Also you have to pay £10.50 for the parking-maybe something all central hotels do and I’m used to out of town hotels with free parking! We enjoyed our stay but on looking closely we would not go back and would look elsewhere!

Had to change rooms as extractor fan constantly running - was told initially that was normal! Dirty trays left in hallways, breakfast tray outside our room still at 4pm on check in and when we returned to the room at 9:30!

Great location, nice art. Not great for sleeping
I'll start with the good. The decor and refurbishment is generally very good. They gone with an eclectic, shabby chic, and what looks like lots of artists which is generally well curated Unfortunately, it's like putting lipstick on a pig. It might look nice but you wouldn't want to sleep with it That's generally how I feel about this place. A coat of paint and nice art doesn't fix the problem of single glazed sash windows facing one of the busiest nightlife areas in the city. At least you can hear all the police radios from the patrols making you feel safe after the fights break out at 3am below. It doesn't sort the problem that every floorboard in the entire building is possibly original and creaks when anyone moves, anywhere, or breathes, or blinks. It certainly doesn't stop the internal fire doors from banging loudly onto your bedroom wall when the drunk hen parties you have staying on each floor clatter about every 15 minutes during the small hours. (Cheryl, he definitely wasn't worth it!) The art also doesn't fix the ambivalence of the management who after misinforming you of the opening hours of the spa you selected the hotel for, seem disinterested when you get turned away 10 mins after last entry. No, apologising is not all you can do, it's just a nice saying that seems to roll off the tongue far too readily Also, and it's a minor gripe, a Starbucks logo does not make you a Starbucks franchise. You're just selling stuff from a machine in a logo
