Very poor. Room not ready on arrival and the whole place needed to be thoroughly cleaned.

6/10 Good

Disappointing and more like 6/10
Stayed 3 nights which might have been a mistake. We arrived (Sunday) and told that they did not do cooked breakfasts Mon-Weds which was not made clear by Hotels.com. We were told that there was a continental breakfast available from 7 but no milk or bowls and just some weetabix and some pastries. We went out for breakfast. The room was small with no real storage (OK for 1 nights but not 3) There was only one spot light in the bathroom and no extractor fan; had to use phone light to shave. Bed was very soft. Road was noisy Monday and Tuesday night. Shower was OK but wet room. Only one hand towel between us. TV control needed new batteries. Insufficient tea bags for 3 nights (nothing replenished. Felt mislead by ratings of 9/10. No way, more like 5 or 6/10. Wouldn't go back and would not recommend. Seemed to be run by teenagers. Don't trust Hotel.com reviews any more.

The George warm welcome and great sleep
Booked last minute due to work commitment. Arrived and received a warm welcome. quick service and then shown to my room. the room was clean and cosy. got change and went down to the bar area again staff very friendly and helpful. I went for the steak and ale pie with creamy mash, selection of veg and gravy with a Moretti top wash it down. Meal was delicious, and to follow was a cheese selection again very nice. The service was very attentive. My night's sleep was very comfortable the shower was warm and refreshing. Only problem was i was unable to sample the breakfast has i had an early start. would recommend The George and would like to thank the staff for their friendliness. i look forward to staying again next time i am in the area.

6/10 Good

Not good, not sure what The George is trying to be
The staff were very nice, in particular the guy that checked me in and showed me to my room. The room was very hot but there was a fan supplied (no aircon) which struggled to be honest. I didn't sleep well and woke at 0400 hot. No one knew how to get onto the facility internet which was a shame so I struggled to work. I decided to have dinner there and some of the choices were not available. I decided to have the avocado/crab starter which was just a load of blended avocado with a few dots of crab on top. Not very appealing. I ordered the fish and chips which were ok but when I asked for tartar sauce there was none. I had paid for breakfast but the chef didnt start until 0800 so I couldnt get anything hot. I was told there was cereal coffee tea toast for the early starters left out from 0600 I think. I went for this at 0650, no milk, no water no butter etc. The chef was outside having a cigarette, he watched me go to the table and then leave, said good morning as I went past but by now I just wanted to leave. £15 the non breakfast cost me. I am sure it's good in normal weather times but this doesn't take in the poor starter, no tartar sauce, no breakfast even though I paid for it and no internet.
