Not what was expected and not 4 stars by any means
Staff in restaurant were lovely. Receptionist so so , not very helpful. Room is no way a 4star. Pictures online not representative of what we got.. Could have stayed at Travelodge for less and more comfort. It was clean but furniture was ancient and felt unclean because if that. One socket in main room for two people. View was rear end if building. Would I stay again ... not at that price no.

    Poor 2.0
    Was lovely in the 1950s
This may have been a good hotel in the 1950s when the Queen Mother stayed but I think that was the last time our room was cleaned, cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and a dirty mirror gave the impression that this room had been forgotten. As to the bed, it was large and neatly made but it was as soft as a well used pillow and there was a big dip in the centre of the mattress, overall for the price I was charged I would not recommend a stay in this hotel. I could have had a 3 night stay in a premier inn for that price and not had to worry about the cleanliness of the room. Our view also left a lot to be desired, twice in the space of 2 hours a pigeon flew into the window, twice! As you can see from the bird lime on our window sill this area of the outside hasn’t been cleaned for many years.

Great but please improve your cleaning.
Everything was great, the staff, food everything. The only issue is the cleanliness it’s filthy an inch dust at the window (which can’t be opened), scum round the bath, unclean marks underneath the sink. Carpet was fine and looked new. Come on get out the bleach and start scrubbing! I couldn’t face another night due to the dirt.

    Fair 4.0
Awful - my worst hotel experience in years.
I can't believe the scores for this hotel, so maybe I drew the short straw because my room was awful. Wall paper peeling, big damp stains on the roof and upper walls; furniture worn out and grubby - I wouldn't sit on any of the chairs. Latch on the sash window was broken and so were the ropes so couldn't open it, also window was so grubby you could hardly see out. Mattress and bed linen seemed OK and bed reasonably comfy. One of the reasons I chose that hotel was to have a bath on arrival after a long journey, but I would never have used that bath, which was so poorly cleaned. Tried the shower, which had VERY poor pressure and temperature varied like a yo-yo, so a quick in and out. The towels were very old and worn, frayed at the edges and so rough that they hardly dried me and were uncomfortable to use - terrible. The experience was like staying in a cheap B&B. Breakfast room looked OK (except side windows were again very grubby). Breakfast choice and quality was good except for the ultra-weak coffee. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast only served from 8-10, and the breakfast room is way too small for the hotel, so from 8:15 there was a long disgruntled queue of guests. I was lucky that I got there bang on 8 as start time made it tight for me to get to my meeting, and if I had been 10 minutes later I would have had to skip breakfast. My experience was woeful. I can't believe that was 4*, especially at the price. Will never stay there again if I have the choice.

    Good 6.0
    Enjoyed stay overall.... but
We have stayed at the Imperial before so we knew the age of the building. As you walk in the reception area and the whole of downstairs is fantastic. The staff are polite and helpful and cant do enough for you. Couple of negatives from our stay is in the bedroom, some of the furnishings are looking tired including a chair in the room that had a few stains on and a headboard that had seen better days. We could not open the windows which would be an issue in the summer. There were a few hairs in the bathroom. We were also charged £7.00 to park in the hotels own car park which I don't understand. To end on a positive, we had a 3 course meal in the hotel where the food was excellent quality and matched the table service. Just a shame the room was a little tired.

Traditional hotel very tired decor, good breakfast but that’s about it our room was dated, no housekeeping and the windows rattled all night
