Don't stay here
We were looking forward to our 3 nights in Boston at the end of a great 17-night tour of New England, choosing the Taj on its previous reviews. On arrival, the hotel's location was lovely & the lobby looked very smart (as expected). Unfortunately, the good about ended there: Check-in is quoted from 15.00 but on arrival at 15.10, the room wasn’t ready & whilst I returned the rental car, my wife waited a further 20 mins for the room to be ready One of the bathroom sink taps was faulty (see photo) The complementary water didn’t materialise until checkout The complementary coffee & tea was only available 6am to 9.30am The stated fresh bed linen every 2 days didn’t materialise (see duvet cover photo) Faulty hair dryer switch The ‘free’ WiFi you pay for within the resort fee of $$pn (payable on check-out) Our room, although pretty clean, was a bit tired We gave the Taj breakfast a miss as, not only was it not to our taste, it was also very expensive We thought we were paying for a luxury stay in a luxury hotel but a budget hotel in Montpelier during our tour proved that one can pay less than 1/3 of the Taj price for a superior experience (happy, pleasant, helpful staff; hot drinks & snacks available 24/7; free parking [yes, I know parking is expensive in Boston]; well-cared for rooms; free water in the room; free WiFi; free breakfast; room ready 15 minutes before time; quality linen; normal hairdryer; no tap malfunctions).

Great hotel & location. Beware of wedding parties.
This is a great top-end hotel, right on Boston Common between Newbury and Commonwealth. It is very easy to all parts of the City from here. All the staff were excellent, very polite, welcoming and helpful. Very nice room, and a nice bar attached for a late-night wind-down. However, it's a popular wedding destination, and our Saturday night was disturbed by late night revellers. It was like being in a cheap hotel in the middle of a stag/hen weekend. Unable to sleep through the noise, we complained twice, first at 2:15am then again at 3:30am, before it calmed down. We got about 5 hours sleep aferwards, but it put paid to our planned early breakfast start on Sunday and cost us time on our last day in the city, which was spent in a state of tiredness because of the lack of sleep, before our red-eye flight back to Europe. And don;tthink I am being over-dramatic just to complain. it is not an exaggeration to say it spoilt our weekend. If I was paying $80 and staying in a downtown hostel I would expect this, but not when I am paying over $300 for a high-end hotel. It just was not acceptable, and was equally disappointing not to receive an apology message from management the next day. I fail to understand why we were put in a room in between wedding guests from the same party. If you do book this hotel at a weekend, just ask to be kept away from any wedding guests, and I'm sure you'll have a great stay.
