Exceptional 10.0
I like the location of the hotel, it’s a 10 minute walk to the Petronas Towers, KL tower, Suria KLCC the upscale shopping mall (just below the Petronas towers). Good restaurants are also nearby, 5 minutes walk. We opted for a buffet breakfast and it’s great! Wide variety of delectable foods. Can’t complain! Our room was 1210 and has a nice. We didn’t really spent much time in the room. Bathroom has a separate tub and shower area. No hairdryer though. We didn’t request for one, maybe they have it. Toilet flush pressure is good, plenty hot water. The pool is good, has a view of the KL tower and partial view of Petronas. We spent at least two hours enjoying the pool. And it’s not that deep maybe a little over 5 feet. I feel secure about this hotel since they have metal detectors on the entrance and 4 security guards. They also used metal wand detector. The lobby lounge is a nice place to relax and listen to the band playing live. They have both lovely voices! I will recommend this hotel when you visit KL!

Convenient location in central KL
We enjoyed our overnight stay at the Shangri-La in KL recently. It is a lovely hotel that is currently undergoing a makeover as it is definitely a 20th century property rather than a contemporary hotel. The facilities seem good on the whole. The buffet breakfast was served in the Japanese restaurant as the Lemon Garden Café was undergoing renovation. The pool area is quite nice but is overlooked a bit by the surrounding buildings. The room itself was fine with a comfortable bed and an excellent bathroom. The writing desk was good and had adequate outlets for plugging in various devices. The selection of good TV stations seemed very limited compared to those on offer in other countries but perhaps that is the fault of the country rather than the hotel. The KL Shangri-La is a good property but it doesn't seem to have much of a 'Wow Factor' compared to other hotels in the city such as the nearby Grand Hyatt. Unfortunately I think most of that has to do with the building itself which is definitely an 80's construction so there isn't a great deal that can be done to bring it into the 21st century. If you are a fan of the traditional Shangri-La lobby with its European feel, then you will love the KL Shangri-La.

Not quite luxurious
The lush green environment of the hotel made us feel secluded from the busy streets of KL. The staff were helpful, attentive, and friendly. However, we noticed that the wall paper in the hall was peeling, the mirror in our room was not fully cleaned, and worse, the hair dryer was completely dysfunctional because it was attached in the drawer of the desk and the cord was too short to stretch it towards the mirror. Also, the toiletries (shampoo, conditioner have unpleasant smell like vegetal odor.

You pay for an uncomfortable night!
Room smelt like cigarettes, airconditioning compressor gets switched off in the night after 12:30am. This is common in hotels that are wired to a PIR sensor for movement, however compressor shutdown was hard programmed for this shangri-la and it didn't mater what I did the room was hot, stuffy and humid. No control panel VIP overide sequence! The staff admitted this is so they can reach their energy efficiency targets. Didn't sleep for 3 nights! Hotels are no longer about the people anymore, don't kid ourselves it's all about the bottom line, stronger net yearly profits and keeping the shareholders happy. I would not recommend this hotel. If you want a good night sleep, find yourself a 3-4 star hotel with a split AC with a floating remote that you can control your own sleep destiny.

My 2nd Favorite Hotel in Asia - The Shangri-La KL
Apart from the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Macau, the KL Shangri-La is my absolute favorite hotel, ever. Can't say enough about the quality and speed of service, the food and the overall pampered feeling you get here - all for a very reasonable price. Rooms are luxurious, food is excellent, live entertainment in lobby lounge was pretty decent. KL can be a grind, with the heat, traffic, pollution, etc. But the Shangri-La is an oasis. Good, central location and excellent gym, as well. Highly recommend staying here.
